There are two types of Anglicans.

There are those who are genuinely religious and who are trying to live a Christian life within the Church that they were born into, and which does still have genuine Christianity at its core in works like the Book of Common Prayer, and wonderful expressions of faith in buildings and great hymns.

And then there are other for whom is is simply the biggest social club in Britain - a route to power and respectability.

Actually some people are in both. It used to be that the second group were normally still part of the first. Now, often they are not - and that can even include clergy, and can even include senior clergy.

I’ve moved away from Anglicanism towards Roman Catholicism as a better match for my beliefs. But it wasn’t easy to do. I love the Church of England. What it was - and what it could be again with the right leadership. I felt bad leaving it, like I was abandoning the fight for it. But eventually I could not stay.

Some are better than me - and stay within it to fight the good fight.

To build Jerusalem in England’s green and pleasant land.

Yea, after watching Ballykissangel, I wanted to convert to Catholic too for a while.
