Ferguson city manager resigns after critical DOJ report

(CNN)Ferguson City Manager John Shaw resigned Tuesday in the wake of a scathing Justice Department report.

The report blames Ferguson, Missouri, police and courts for abusive behavior that disproportionately targets African-American residents.

"Over the last several months I have done everything in my power to work with countless groups to bring about positive change and strengthen our community," Shaw wrote in his resignation letter.

He continued: "During this time I have also worked closely with the Department of Justice to identify opportunities to improve, and then moved quickly to implement its recommendations for change.

"And while I certainly respect the work that the DOJ recently performed in their investigation and report on the City of Ferguson, I must state clearly that my office has never instructed the police department to target African Americans, nor falsify charges to administer fines, nor heap abuses on the backs of the poor. Any inferences of that kind from the report are simply false."

The gerrymandering they say they despise

(unless, of course it's in THEIR favor)

And the police chief is resigning today too, according to Fox.

The police force should all resign. Let the animals take care of themselves. That should work out well.

How many folks in the press who perpetuated the “hands up” myth are going to resign?

I’m going to be mean and say again that I hope their whole police force finds jobs someplace else and quits, just like the city manager and chief did-then that they file suit against the justice dept/Holder for creating a hostile work environment for them.

Wasn’t part of the complaint that the cops are racist and there aren’t black cops? So let the city find qualified blacks, make them cops and see if that makes everything unicorns and rainbows in Ferguson...

authorities in Ferguson frequently saw residents as “sources of revenue.”

So does every other city in America. That is the main function of most Police Departments, raise revenue.

They should do that, and we already know how it will end if they do, but the media will never go back and do a “Ferguson After Five years” story, or if they did, they would just lie their azzes off (so what’s new?) about the results, of having the unqualified police the lawless.

That scenario would be too interesting to reporters-they likely would not be kept away, even if they had to wear a disguise and assume another identity to hide and watch. So even if it turned into the community experiment from hell, there would be recriminations for some and schadenfreude for others to be had...

Sometimes its just wise to flee with your family before the coming onslaught.
Last one out of Ferguson, turn out the lights.
