WICKLIFFE, Ohio -- A 17-year-old Euclid boy used a toy gun to try to rob a woman delivering the mail Tuesday morning, police said.
The boy approached the mail carrier near the corner of Bryn Mawr Avenue and Parkwood Drive about 10:20 a.m., pulled out what appeared to be a revolver and demanded money, according to a police report.
A passerby who didn't realize the teen was trying to rob the mail carrier approached the woman to give her a letter, according to the report. The passerby scared the teen, and the boy fled.
The mail carrier told a 911 dispatcher that she wasn't hurt but was a little shaken after the attempted robbery, according to a 911 call the Wickliffe Police Department released Tuesday afternoon.
When the teen demanded money, she told the dispatcher she said she wasn't allowed to carry any.
A Wickliffe police officer responding to the robbery spotted the boy less than a minute later and chased him. The teen initially escaped, but Euclid and Wickliffe police set up a perimeter around the area and caught him a short time later, police said.
The boy hid the plastic toy pistol -- which had an orange safety cap removed -- in a pile of snow near the scene of the attempted robbery, police said.
The teen is charged with aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence and obstruction.

Euclid....one of Cleveland’s fine eastern suburbs.
Did the ‘boy’ use euclidian geometry to ‘figger’ how to rob the carrier?
Sounds like he would have had to take of his Air Jordens to count to 20.

Looks real to me. This should help justify police shootings of All people using toy guns to commit crimes. That includes pointing guns at people in parks.

Someone from the family will post a grade school picture of him and say that he is a good boy, and then they will try and sue the post office for delivering mail. He should be tried as an adult and do adult time. What an idiot.

With all the guns in Cleveland this BOY has no clue how close to his grave he is.
"He wanted to attend a birthday party at the Parma Chuck-E-Chess but got confused."
Haaa, Haaaa, Haaaaaa! [Phyllis Diller laugh]
Tried to hold up a letter carrier? Did he miss getting his Kohl’s coupon?
The language choice is interesting: 17 yr old BOY tried to rob a WOMAN delivering mail.
What?
then the charges: tampering with evidence?
Weird.
As Forest Gump said: "Stupid is, as stupid does".
Would not this be a literal federal offense?
Yes it is! Doing a federal rap for the change a mail carrier has in his/her pocket. Definitely will be the dumb crook of the day!
“Boy”??
Who-boy, time to send this writer to sensitivity camp for a month.
I have dollars I will put up against your soggy old donuts that this young boy is not Amish.
In fact, he may file a discrimination lawsuit for the referring to him as a BOY. That is racist don’t you know?
Yes I believe it would.
But it may be up to a Federal Prosecutor to charge him.
If this youth only had a job. Gawd I hate living in this area anymore
> Euclid....one of Clevelands fine eastern suburbs.
Once upon a time, it used to be such.
