The GOP didn’t need to be there. They were there for the original marches in Selma. There really wasn’t any reason for them to go to the Al Sharpton “Resist We Much” Show in Selma this last weekend.

The GOP wasn’t there the first time, either.

Republican votes in the Senate passed the civil rights bills of the ‘60s. Democrat senators were members of the KKK. Al Gore’s father filibustered against the Civil Rights Bill. Never forget that.

I boycotted the event myself. As negroes continue their race war against white people, I have chosen sides.

RE :”And the Republican party’s current leadership will be nowhere to be seen. “

Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and GWB were there, got to listen to Obama and John Lewis complain bout how racist the US is and how congress should pass a bill reversing the SCOTUS decision on Voting Rights Act, to put Red Southern states back under the Federal governments heel.

No, they passed the Civil Rights Act without the help of the Clinton mentor J. William Fulbright, a racist.

The beatings of the “marchers” was conducted by Democrats and democrat machine.

George W. Bush and his wife WERE at this memorial, and edited out of the photos. Kabuki of the democrats.

Pelosi, Reid, Feinstein, Boxer, Biden, and Hillary all missed the march, because obviously according to the article, they are racists.

If that's the case, you have to remember that the Democratic party was not only NOT there; but was beating the marchers that were there. So what Party was marching there? Blacks were mostly Republicans at the time.

All part of the Obama campaign to keep the people of color on the plantation. Blacks have less reason every day to support the Democrat Party who have decided that they can be ignored, while illegal immigrants and Muslims are the new most favored identity groups.

The Dems were there the first time, though. They were the ones with the police dogs and fire hoses. Oh yeah, they were the ones dressed in bedsheets with the pointy white hats too.

Can someone explain what was successful about Selma?

What is it today that is better because of Selma?

This article equates protestors and MLK with Founders and Framers, which is nonsense.

Funny that none of the stories even mention that LBJ was President at the time.

"Funny that none of the stories even mention that LBJ was President at the time"

Numerous articles have mentioned LBJ's role in this march.

The marchers got beat up in the first march, after which LBJ sent federal officers to protect them and they completed the second march.
