The root issue is that liberalism is based on equality, while conservatism is based on liberty. The problem is that equality can be implemented by law, while liberty cannot. While equality can be dictated by empirical measures that are so beloved by government nannies, outcomes are inherently unequal under liberty.
All great advances are predicated by innumerable failures, but the sirens’ song of equality is advance without failure or even cost. Modern conservative leaders have bought into the lie that they can have liberty without cost and are more concerned with maintaining the status quo than advancing liberty.
Excellent synopsis. Yet we all seem to be waiting for someone else to decide it’s time to defend liberty.
