A friend and I stopped in a store and I asked a very masculine appearing young male employee a question. He answered in a valley girl tone accompanied with a hip wiggle and wrist swish. I was startled as the body language was so unexpected in this tiny town. As we left my buddy said, “I wonder if he’s as gay as he sounds.” I replied that I think its a fashion brought on by watching TV and movies and may have nothing to do with sex. Movies used to extol the virtues of men like John Wayne and that’s who my generation tried to sound like. My concern is the attitudes that go with that poufy attitude. How competent is somebody like that at doing the other things expected of men?
I think “you’re a pussy” or “you’re a faggot” I would like a lot less than “be a man”. But I would not want a woman to say that just because they have no idea what being a man is. Especially today.
