Maybe it works both ways. When I was stationed in Thailand, one of the priests at Holy redeemer Church in Bangkok told of a time when he'd been pastor at an "upcountry" church. He said he'd been eating lunch when a Thai native came up and stood watching him. He asked the man to leave him in peace. The man started crying. He said he'd walked a long distance just to watch the "farang" eat.
