U.S. federal government workers are thriving in their financial well-being more than the rest of the workforce. On average, 44% of federal government employees are thriving financially, compared with 34% of all other workers in the U.S.
Federal pay has been a topic of debate for years, with differing accounts of whether federal employees are paid more, no more or less than non-federal employees. However, financial well-being is not a direct report of salary, benefits or overall compensation.
It is a composite of responses to the perceptions of standards of living, affordability of basic necessities and financial woes based on region of country, family size, cost of living, debt and various other factors that go into subjective assessments of financial situations.

Well if you have a job for life you automatically have have a higher financial will being the other half can get canned at anytime
Job for life?
No surprise here. Servants rarely do as well as their masters. Make that never.
Know how hard it is to fire a career civil servant? I’ve heard many horror stories from Fed managers who have tried ...
Military versus law enforcement versus bureaucrat. It is tough to analyze this subject without the cross-tabs. Certainly the work tempo and pensions within the bureaucracy are very relaxed & generous.
“Know how hard it is to fire a career civil servant?”
Yes I do, I am one. While I will agree it is more difficult to terminate a fed civil servant, I’ve seen it happen plenty of times. Also something to remember is they also cannot go on strike. IMO It’s really not the people in the system, it’s the system itself that I feel needs reform..........As for pay, before this year I haven’t had a COLA in 5 years AND I’m not complaining, that’s fine. Personally I feel honored and privileged to serve the taxpayer and that is not something I take lightly. Just my 2 cent.
Come on - you just lose credibility when you take issue with it being hard to fire a federal bureaucrat. How many IRS employees have been fired over going after tea-party organizations? I’m pretty sure the number is 0.
When I retired from the military people told me, “With you training, skills and background you could get a great job with the government!”
I told them there was no way in hell I would EVER work for the fed, especially while a demoncrat was in power.
Should this not tell you something?
I’m not really taking issue with difficulty terminating a fed gov employee, I stated it was difficult just not impossible. I can only speak to what I have been witness to where I work. I’m thinking the irs thing is kind of a special case considering the POTUS is probably involved protecting those people, wouldn’t you agree? And yes I think MANY heads should roll over what they are doing to Conservative groups.
I consult for FED agencies and wish there were more of your co-workers who thought like yourself.
Heck, my one of my best friends thinks its his right to get paid his outrageous salary and he still demands more from the tax payer while not caring a whit about their plight.
Higher Financial Well Being? Maybe higher sense of self-worth. In the past you really couldn’t become wealthy woeking for the federal government but I guess those daysare gone now that they are all voting on their own pay raises or being awarded for obedience to the king...
“Heck, my one of my best friends thinks its his right to get paid his outrageous salary and he still demands more from the tax payer while not caring a whit about their plight.”
Oh yeah, there’s plenty of those. I worked in private sector aerospace before becoming a civil servant. For a lot of the people at the facility I work at it’s the only job they’ve ever had and have NO idea what it’s like in “the real world” and do seem to be a bit spoiled......some VERY. That’s why I say it’s the system that creates these types of people.
However, my friend feels VERY entitled. Come to think of it, I have another good friend who thinks the same way. I would believe that the system foments that type of thinking. I doubt many people think that way the first few years in.
Tried to defend the profit motive in a room full of civil "servants".
Compared cost and budget process of public versus private enterprise?
Been able to justify public enterprise utter immunity to scheduling & the vast menu of alibis that can be applied to justify delays?
Noticed how original thinking will usually get you pushed aside in favor of a true believer?
Seen a private firm willingly hang onto unused real estate (even expand it) rather than to lose its apparent grandeur?
Known of a private firm inflating hours to accomplish no additional work across the entire enterprise merely to justify a larger budget next FY?
I know that there are a lot of very nice people working for government, but even they don't see the discrepancies clearly, constitute a minority, and accept their system as inevitable.
That was my point. Working at the USDA food-stamp operations is a much better deal on so many levels.
