Ben Affleck, Daytona 500 Grand Marshal?

Buh-bye...

PC infestation can(in the short term)bring in big $$$ to a few, but eventually it's moral corruption(AKA, it's core)leads whatever it touches into ruins.

One need only look at media/"entertainment" or academia as proof.

It has a lot to do with the economy. Its expensive to go to a race these days.

I agree. It is too expensive. I took my Daughter down a few times to Charlotte. Finding a hotel within a 100 miles (at exorbitant rates) and the ticket prices put quite a break on traveling to the races. It just wasn't worth it.

The article (slimes) is a bit dishonest. Surprise. I think they overbuilt the seating in Charlotte before the drop off. I don't remember anyone seated between turns 2 and 3 in all the years I visited. I don't think there are any vendor facilities on that side of the track. Maybe someone here knows?

I was surprised at the number of people outside of the raceway. It struck me as a combination of Woodstock and the Super Bowl. My impression was there were equal amounts of people inside and outside the Charlotte venue.

Today's drivers don't seem to have much personality. Richard Petty's smile could light up a room, and Earnhardt's menace could be felt a mile away. But who gets excited about Jimmie Johnson?

That's also dollar-driven. Personalities must be kept in check, to keep it "family-friendly". That's why Vegas is in decline, why racing is in decline, why football's growth is slowing, etc etc etc. Mommies are wanting happy happy funtime with no real testosterone, adrenaline, competitive drive, or violence for their kiddies.

That radio station did a bunch of "crank calls" to "Mr. Bergis" with similarly ridiculous premises... and similarly hilarious results... even if it might be staged for entertaining radio. Here... enjoy:

I LOL yesterday when Larry Mac said “I love looking at full stands!” At best they 50% full with people scattered through out. At least now I am doing other stuff during a race. Next year habit should be kicked.

I wish they would just ignore it rather than lie about it. Don’t give up on NASCAR

DROP the prices

FILL the seats

LOOK better on TV broadcast

DOUBLE the amount of consessions sold

INCREASE the interest of others to attend

REMEMBER the roots of NASCAR

I lived in So Calif for 29 years. I followed drag racing quite closely. One year, I think in the early 70’s, they decided to hold a WEDNESDAY night event—a tune up for the coming start of the season.

In those days, entry with a pit pass was about $5. They charged $2.50 for this night. NO prior advertising—only word of mouth. By 6 PM. Calif Hwy Patrol was threatening to close the off ramp to LIONS DRAG STRIP in Long Beach because traffic was backed up over 2 miles. One of the best drag race events I have ever been able to attend.
