Hate campaign has made PM stronger (Australia's conservative Prime Minister, Tony Abbott)
Herald Sun (Melbourne) ^ | 5th March 2015 | Andrew Bolt

HOW I’ve laughed. The howling pack of journalists trying to destroy Tony Abbott may have left him stronger.

There are many reasons why the Prime Minister is making a stunning recovery in some polls.

.....

And it’s working. First came a Newspoll showing Abbott more than halving Labor’s lead. Then came Monday’s IPSOS poll that (exaggeratedly) claimed the Liberals were now only a whisker behind, 49 per cent to 51.

But there is one factor in Abbott’s recovery that media hasn’t yet admitted: Abbott’s media haters finally went too far and made him an underdog. They made it too obvious they were no longer just reporting, but leading an attempted putsch against an elected leader.

.....

But in recent weeks the campaign has not just become hysterical but too, too obvious.

The abuse became extreme, with one Age column insisting Abbott’s values now included “naked misogyny, intimidation and bribes”.

.....

The Australian’s John Lyons even claimed Abbott had asked our “leading military planners” for “advice” on the “unilateral invasion of Iraq”.....

But Abbott-hating journalists got so excited that they even started to mock Abbott for his virtues.

.....

But by attacking Abbott for doing the right and popular thing, the media lynch mob woke up many voters to the real game: that the Leftist media class was actually trying to depose an elected conservative Prime Minister.

Voters have never liked being bullied and bulled by journalists.....

.....

Seriously? For heaven’s sake. Their hatred has unhinged them.

So is it no wonder if voters no longer take the hate-Abbott media seriously?

I thought he already won the election.

I’ve wondered about this. I teach two kids from Australia, and work with one. They tend to give me their viewpoints and think they’re speaking for the majority.

He did - but in a Parliamentary democracy, he can be removed from office in a number of ways including by his own party. That’s what a lot of those who dislike him are trying to engineer. They actually got it to a vote a couple of weeks ago, which he won 61-39 out of the 101 MPs and Senators from his own party who voted (one managed to cast a meaningless vote).

Oh, I didn’t know how that works.

I’m sure the Australian birdcage liners are infested with leftist turds just like the American papers but is there a partially honest one in your opinion?

Yes. There's a number, all closely connected, all owned by News Corp - a national level paper, and dailies in each of the four largest cities in Australia. They share quite a lot of content, and all are reasonably conservative, although all have some columnists from the left as well.

The Australian (Australia's only national daily paper)

The Herald Sun (Melbourne, Victoria)

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney, New South Wales)

The Courier-Mail (Brisbane, Queensland)

The Advertiser (Adelaide, South Australia)

They all put a lot of their articles behind paywalls, The Australian most notably - it has one that is hard to get around at all, the others let people access a certain number of articles for free before blocking people (and if you delete your browser history, the limit sometimes resets). I would suggest either the Herald Sun, or Daily Telegraph as a first port of call, simply because they come out of the two largest cities and because they let people see a lot more of their content without paying than The Australian does.

The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age (Melbourne) represent the other side of the coin - aggressively left wing newspapers. Neither will allow any of their content to be shared here, and they are of most use to see how the left wing thinks.

Thanks. Am going to bookmark them.

PS, on a totally different note, youngest daughter and husband went down under on their honeymoon a few years ago. They wanted to dive on the Great Barrier Reef among other things. He had been to Australia once before. Anyhow, amongst various trip stories the one I found most amusing was when they went to go horseback riding the stables would not let him ride their Clydesdale because he was supposedly too big! Over 225 pounds. (He is actually 6’5” and 265 pounds). Their horses here in Texas seem to bear up OK and they aren’t draft horse size. I got a good laugh out of that.
