He only controls 46 seats, but Harry Reid is acting like he has 60.
Reids uncompromising posture during the flap over homeland security funding and his emerging plans for an upcoming fight over immigration make clear hes doing little to change the hardball style that defined his tenure as majority leader. This despite losing control of the chamber after last falls Democratic debacle and tamping down a coup among centrists seeking his ouster.
The 75-year-old Reid, who may seek reelection next year and is in his second stint as minority leader, is betting that Republicans are so nervous about being blamed for a crisis in Washington as they have been repeatedly before that they will capitulate again.
Naturally, his unyielding stance has maddened Republicans.
The new Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, wanted to initiate a lengthy floor debate on a House-passed Department of Homeland Security funding bill. But Reid surprised Republicans by rallying his caucus on four separate occasions to block the measure from even coming forward demanding McConnell drop contentious immigration provisions. After a month of inaction in the Senate and up against Fridays funding deadline, McConnell ultimately bent to Reids demands.
As House Republicans have called for formal negotiations on the Senates clean DHS funding bill, Reid has sent a blunt message across the Capitol: Take it or leave it. Most believe the House will ultimately take it.

THAT is what I would like to see. Actually three of them are running and so far all we have seen is? ..........Oh yeah, SPEECHES.
The turtle form KY is in his shell, and a one-eyed Reid is still running the show with his minority. Nothing has changed since the election. The voters of KY and the gutless Republican senators who elected McConnell as leader are responsible for this farce.
If McConnell wanted these bills to get to the floor, he would do as Harry did, go nuclear. The pubbies all said at the time payback is a bitch (paraphrased of course). Not looking so bitchy from here.
The democrats know exactly what the republicans will do. They will talk tough and then bend over and grab their ankles when the democrats call their bluff. The American people gave them majorities in both houses but the republicans don’t have the guts to do anything with it.
“Much as I despise Reid, I admire his toughness. The guy doesnt give an inch.”
Exactly. Dingy Harry fights tooth and nail for leftism and the destruction of our country. He is thus despicable, but undeniably he is a fighter.
McConnell also is despicable—a poseur and a coward.
At least 2/3rds of the Republicans in the District of Corruption are absolutely contemptible.
Reid surprised who? Not us, or maybe not those of us who wanted McConnell to lose his Kentucky race.
