Ukraine To Halt Currency Trading Again Any Minute
Zerohedge ^ | 2-26-2015 | Durden

With Prime Minister Yatsenyuk putting his foot down and squeezing the central bank to lift capital controls, Ukraine's currency is totally collapsing this morning. Up over 5 handles to a fresh record low of 33.75/USD, we suspect currency trading will be halted any minute. While we discussed the endgame for Ukraine last night, on the street, things are dire with ATM lines, shelves emptied, and local currency exchanges marking up levels dramatically more than the 'official' rates...

The 'independent' Central Bank halted currency trading, and then the government screamed...

"I learned this morning on the Internet that the National Bank of Ukraine has, as usual on its own without any sort of consultations, made the decision to close the interbank currency market, which will absolutely not add to the stability of the national currency that the national bank is responsible for. This situation has a very complex and negative influence on the country's economy," Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.

And it was unhalted... and this happened... UAH collapsed...

Bank runs in progress, panic-buying of food stuffs, etc. Lots of Twitter chatter that ATM's are only allowing withdrawals of up to 50H per day. (That's about $1.30US)

Lots of vids and vines on the internet today showing ATM lines, and Walmart Black Friday-like scenes at groceries with empty shelves.

With reports that Ukraine's gas supply could be turned off imminently and fears that the country is on the brink of bankruptcy, Ukraine government officials told CNBC the country is relying on International Monetary Fund (IMF) aid to come to its rescue.

“This is a very serious financial crisis there's no question, and we're looking forward to the IMF board meeting and the IMF first tranche (of aid) because it's a critical time,” Natalie Jaresko, finance minister of Ukraine, told CNBC Wednesday.

International financial aid of around $40 billion – with around $17 billion coming from the IMF – was pledged earlier this month but the money is yet to be released and is reliant on several reforms being introduced by the Kiev government.

On the bright side, Hookers and Blow is now dirt cheap in Ukraine, in US Dollars. A real bonus for the Democrat Carpet-Baggers there, like Hunter Biden.

I don’t know. Might not work out well for your Russian troops and their friends in Ukraine. They might defect for cheap cocaine and hookers.

Don’tcha know? If you are not an enthusiastic supporter of a coup blessed by McCain, Obama, the EU, and the media, you are a Russian general. Congratulations,,,,

Did I say ‘your Russian troops’? I’m sure I meant ‘your friends, the Russian troops’.

And before you quarrel with me on this, maybe go back and look for a post you’ve written that is critical of anything Russia has done vis a vis Ukraine.

DR, the proof is in the pudding.

Check trclaf’s posting history for a single word critical of the Russian involvement in the Ukraine. Just one.

“Check trclaf’s posting history for a single word critical of the Russian involvement in the Ukraine. Just one.”

Yes, please check that posting history...

You’ll find that I pretty much predicted how this was going to go down, from the day of the coup, on Jim Rob’s article.

That said, I thought it would be over, long before now.

So while you are trying to create an impression, remember that anyone with even a basic knowledge of the area and the players involved, should have realized what was going to happen, especially after the Korsun, Odessa, and Mariupol massacres.

That it doesn’t match the Orwellian propaganda from the Kiev state-controlled propaganda organs is YOUR problem, not mine.

“If you are not an enthusiastic supporter of a coup blessed by McCain, Obama, the EU, and the media, you are a Russian general. Congratulations.”

The desperation to paint anyone not complying with the latest Kiev/Obamunist-approved Orwellian GroupThink was annoying at first, but now it’s just laughable.

You’ll note that these few ID’s hurling insults and accusations don’t even bother to comment on the articles, they just try to shout down anything that might make Kiev look bad.

This is an article about the FINANCIAL situation in Ukraine, but noting Bank Runs and empty shelves is somehow called “Supporting Russian troops”.

Your glee in anything that helps Putin’s military goals is obvious.

You have a side that you are promoting and it is against America and NATO, and in support of Russia’s invasion.

It’s the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, all over again, as we have to deal with you guys and your anti-Americanism/NATO loyalties.
