Sales of Fairtrade goods have fallen for the first time since the ethical trading scheme was founded 20 years ago as cash-strapped consumers tighten their belts.
The slide of almost 4%, after years of double-digit growth, reflects wider troubles in the grocery market as shoppers put less in their baskets and turn to cheaper chains such as Aldi and Lidl in a bid to save money.

This just so breaks my little heart. Doesn’t it break your heart? Wah, wah, wah.
Poor farmers can’t afford to participate in Fairtrade, so it really just helps to exclude the poorest farmers.
Fairtrade customers mostly don’t care, because they can still pose.
In Central America, it’s known these organizations selectively choose to work with people who support the most liberal-leaning entities.
I didn’t know it was a company, I thought it was just a bumper sticker.
