I don’t think we’re being “prepped” for anything. I think it was a natural question that arose out of Rudy’s challenge to Zero’s patriotism, and expanded to his love of Muslims and his utter unwillingness to tie Islam to any of the terrorism going on.

If Obama were running again, maybe, but since he's not any false narrative about him isn't going to affect the election.
This is a turf battle about context. The media wants to use Giuliani's comments against other Republicans in the way that the writer says: either Republican candidates assert that the president is a Christian or a patriot, or they're maligned for questioning Obama's bona fides, and that's used against the whole party ("fever swamps," etc.)
What Walker's doing is turning this around and making the media themselves the issue, and when that happens, the press gets very uncomfortable. After all, their veto power is at stake.

Obama feels perfectly justified in saying that those who kill and enslave in the name of Islam aren’t really muslim.
From what I’ve seen of Barack Obama, he uses the identity of being “Christian” to maintain support from the churchgoing black population (David Axelrod confessed that Obama lied about opposing same sex marriage on the grounds that it was a sacred institution between a man and a woman with God in the mix).
Barack has been far more vocal in his admiration of Islam (and has pushed American foreign policy in ways to have advanced Islamic theocratic rule in the Middle East).
I don’t know if he believes in any deity.
From his answers in 2004 (Jesus is not the only way, Jesus is a historical figure), I don’t recognize him as a Christian.

Any time he speaks of Christianity, it comes across as trying to appease those who like mumbo jumbo.

No one knows another person's heart, but Christians are supposed to be known by their fruit. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” These are not qualities that I would associate with Obama. On the other hand, his allegiance to Islam is on display nearly every day. It makes me think of a saying I have heard many times before - if you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? In Obama’s case, there would not be much evidence to present!

" . . . why does the press seem to want and need Obama to be a Christian?"
It is clear to me: because they don't want us to know the truth about Obama. They thought that if Obama were known to be an atheist or a Muslim or a Marxist, or whatever he really is, that might cost him just enough votes - 2-5% - to lose elections, and they did not want that to happen. They have been shielding Obama from scrutiny for eight years. The press can go to hell.
