A controversial politician who responds to 'hate mail' with profanities has defended his fiery responses, telling Daily Mail Australia he should not have to quietly cop 'obnoxious' abuse.
Senator David Leyonhjelm has recently fired back at email correspondents who 'get under his skin', saying one read: 'DILLIGAF' - an acronym which stands for 'Do I Look Like I Give A F***'.
It wasn't the first missive containing cursing - in January Mr Leyonhjelm replied to an activist's email referencing Hitler with the response: 'Go f*** yourself you communist turd.'
'If you're polite to me, I'll be polite to you,' said Liberal Democratic Party senator in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.
'There's a small group of people out there who think it's their duty to be obnoxious to politicians.
'Some get quite astonished when this politician bites back at them.
'Somehow there's this perception I should just cop it.
'I don't mind people disagreeing with me. I have no problem with that at all.
'It's part and parcel of the job. They can disagree as enthusiastically as they want.
'What I don't have to accept is obnoxious abuse'.

He's the only member of the Liberal Democratic Party in the Australian Parliament. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't seem to understand that he's not a member of the (conservative) Liberal Party, including the activist who has started a petition against him. In fact, he's a libertarian who agrees with the conservatives on a lot of issues, but not on all, and has the freedom to do what he likes without having to worry about a party heirarchy. He's actually only in Parliament because a lot of people who voted for him thought they were voting Liberal (he was the first candidate listed on the huge NSW Senate Ballot paper, and some people don't seem to have read past the word 'Liberal' before filling it in - this is something he freely acknowledges by the way, it doubled his vote. So he really can't rely on having more than one term, and he's wasting no time in trying to get the things that matter to him done. If Australians see a wholesale relaxation of our gun laws, he'll be the reason.
Someone tried to equate me with Hitler, an F-bomb would be nothing compared to the response I’d give them.
Have to remember that one.
‘Go f*** yourself you communist turd.’
That would look good on a bumper sticker.
;-)
"Now listen, you queer, stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I'll sock you in your goddamn face, and you'll stay plastered."
LOL, so let's see - if you're a staunch progressive liberal, then you want to "conserve" extreme liberalism, so you're a "conservative liberal."
If, however, you want to include free-market conservative concepts into your liberalism, then you're just a liberal, and not a conservative liberal.
Got it.
One of the greatest moments in TV history.
I have no problem with this. In fact, I wish I could use it at my part-time job.
I’m not supportive of the continued coarsening of discourse in today’s society - but there are times and places when there’s really no other way to let the other person know how you feel by firing back a few select swear words at them.
Some people are incapable of getting the message otherwise.
I’m not sure if that’s an Australianism that has made its way to America, or an Americanism that has made its way to Australia. In either case, it has long been one of my favorites. Also IDGA(F|S).
No.
The Liberal Party of Australia is the name of Australia’s major conservative party, which is currently in government as the largest party in the Liberal/National coalition government. It’s been called that since the 1940s when the name was selected as a reference to the classical liberalism of the late 18th through 19th centuries.
Senator David Leyonhjelm is not a member of that party. Instead he is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party which is not part of the coalition, and is completely separate.
That’s why, in Australia, referring to him as a Liberal Senator is a mistake - because he’s not a member of the Liberal Party, and that is who that term is used for.
“...Go f*** yourself you communist turd....”
Sounds like the proper response...
I think it’s an Americanism.
I’ve seen DILLIGAF patches on the vests and jackets of various bikers for 30+ years.
I adopted it and gave it a home. (see tagline)
Vidal never stopped smiling even after the threat. WFB lifted weights. I would have given up my left one if WFB would have decked him : )
” ..Go f*** yourself you communist turd....”
It will work.
Australia: the Irish nation.
[Little historic humor there.]
The Scotts get a play and the Irish get a nation, how messed up is that?
Me likey dat...
Sounds like the perfect response from here on out...
It’s too bad Buckley didn’t punch him out on tv. We might not have had to put up with Vidal ever again. No arrogant pos ever needed punching out more than Gore Vidal.
” Its too bad Buckley didnt punch him out on tv.”
He came darn close. WFB was shaking with anger 2 inches away from a TKO. : )
