Conservative Republicans have a message for House Speaker John Boehner: Youve stood up to President Obamas immigration policies so far. Dont cave now.
More than 20 conservative House members have signed onto a letter urging Boehner (R-Ohio) and his leadership team to continue fighting Obamas executive actions on immigration, even as it threatens to shut down the Homeland Security Department at the end of the week.
Last month, the House passed a $40 billion bill funding DHS through September but tied it to GOP amendments defunding Obamas unilateral actions shielding up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation. But the bill went nowhere in the Senate, raising the prospects of a shutdown at the agency on Saturday.
The conservatives letter didnt reference a new plan by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to split apart DHS funding and GOP efforts to gut Obamas immigration actions into two separate bills.
Instead, the letter warned GOP leaders that a federal judges ruling that Obamas immigration moves were unconstitutional should not be seen as an escape hatch from the funding standoff. An appellate court could overturn the ruling, which is being appealed by the Obama administration.
[W]e must remember that these decisions are subject to review by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court of the United States, and the ultimate fate of the Presidents executive action remains in question, they wrote.
For this reason, the Legislative Branch has a responsibility to use its exclusive and constitutionally-granted authority to prevent the Presidents unlawful usurpation of power, without waiting for a final interpretation from the Judicial Branch, the letter continued. District Court rulings can be overturned, but the power of the purse is absolute.
House lawmakers return to Washington for votes Tuesday night after a weeklong recess; Republicans will huddle in a private caucus meeting Wednesday morning to discuss their options.
In addition to Duncan, at least 20 other Republicans have signed the letter: Reps. Tom McClintock (Calif.), Ryan Zinke (Mont.), Steve King (Iowa), Louie Gohmert (Texas), John Fleming (La.), Jim Jordan (Ohio), Jim Bridenstine (Okla.), Mick Mulvaney (S.C.), Ted Yoho (Fla.), Bradley Byrne (Ala.), Gary Palmer (Ala.), Walter Jones (N.C.), Curt Clawson (Wash.), Matt Salmon (Ariz.), Mark Sanford (S.C.), Mo Brooks (Ala.), Dave Brat (Va.), Randy Weber (Texas), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), and Martha Roby (Ala.).
“Tooth and nail” time, Boehner. But you will cry and capitulate soon.
Did Boehner’s balls drop off on their own, or did Obama or Pelosi cut them off?
McConnell Throws in Towel on DHS Fight, but Reid Waiting for Boehner to Cave
“Majority Leader McConnells offer of passing a clean full-year Homeland Security bill through the Senate shorn of immigration provisions which he said could happen very quickly with Democratic cooperation was put on hold by Minority Leader Reid, who told reporters he was waiting to hear Speaker John A. Boehner agree to pass it through the House first.”
House conservatives warn Boehner: Don’t cave on immigration

Boehner to House Conservatives: Kiss my Orange Ass.
The only thing tough about Boehner is how he kicks conservatives to the curb. I well remember how he punished those Repubs who failed to support him in his Speaker of the House bid.
When Obama farts Boehner’s ears flap.
if the House passes the Obama illegal amnesty, then it is GOP-RIP
Ha, the GOPe just hears yip yip yip from a small puppy. Until the conservative unite and bite him in the ass and hard, they will not listen.
Republicans are like the Iraqi army, give them lots of money the weapons they want and at first contact with tey enemy they throw away their weapons and run.
Warning him makes it a sure thing he’ll cave.
No doubt about it. People like Boehner and McConnell are the undertakers of the republic.
Did he ever have them to begin with?
We need to stand firm on this issue. Jeb’s not going to get the nomination anyhow... No One wants more illegals outside of Democrats who want ‘slavery-lite’..
20 signatures isn’t worth anything.
