House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said Monday that Republicans will have to make tough choices in the debate over funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) this week.
On CNNs This Hour, McCaul said the ball currently rests in the Senate's court.
Its up to the Senate to determine what they send back to the House and we'll probably see something come back from the Senate this week and then we have to make some tough choices, he said.
I fully believe that we should not be playing politics with the National Security Agency, like Homeland Security, particularly given the high-threat environment that we're in right now as we look at ISIS, as we look at this latest pronouncement coming out of al-Shabaab, McCaul added. I'm very concerned that a Paris-style attack could occur in the United States, anytime, anywhere. And it would be irresponsible for lawmakers and policy makers to shut down this National Security Agency at this very grave time.
A CNN host asked whether McCaul was suggesting DHS would be funded by the Friday deadline even if it doesnt mean reversing President Obamas immigration actions. While McCaul didnt explicitly say Republicans should change their strategy, he suggested the issue should be left up to the judicial branch.
We have a federal judge now that has declared the executive action unlawful and saying that we would most likely prevail on the constitutional issue. I think the constitutional issue will play out in the courts. The courts determine whether something is constitutional, and not Congress, McCaul replied.

But the democrats do NOT have to take tough choices.
Such is the nature of compromise among the political elite.
When any Rat suggests that Pubs nee to “make tough choices”, they mean the GOP should cave to the Rats.
The choice is simple, ABOLISH the Filibuster, send the bill to the White House, FORCE Obama to show his True Colors! Why is it so hard for these weenies to put the Muslim on defense?
“Defund” the whole friggin’ government for a couple of weeks. JMHO!
Why would Congress need to fund activities under an executive order that already has been struck down as illegal by a Federal Court?
Total nonsense.
McCaul is on the payroll of The Cheap Labor Express
McCaul is a Democrat who runs on the Republican ticket in TX to get elected. Perhaps he is auditioning to be a CNN contributor after he is primaried next year.
Mitch McConnell is prepared to meet Ben Dover and take one for Obama’s Illegals
is this for funding of the same dhs that wants to grant illegal immigrants amnesty? if so, why give it any money at all?
this guy is full of it. First, NSA and such would continue in operation as they would be designated as essential whether funding is passed or not. National security would in no way be impacted, not one iota.
If they aren’t going to do their job, shut them down. Not a dime. Maybe they can sell some hollow points...
Not the Federal judges fault mind you, but issuing the restraining order has given the Republicans an excuse to cave.
