At 7:30 am, the pharmacy opened.

An hour later, the truck rolled up with a pair of National Guard troops who unpacked three boxes of soap bars, two of shampoo, and one very clear instruction: each person may buy up to two of each item.
Not more. That is because the government is wary of the black market.
"Two bars of soap and two shampoos. We hit the jackpot," Lorena murmured under her breath clearly frustrated with the not-so new normal.

Preppers PING!!
Wish all of them would move to their beloved Venezuela, now.
Our future under the Progressives.
It’s because the greedy capitalist overlords are hiding it all in secret warehouses.
“and long delay in diversification”
Actually, Maduro’s kleptocratic dictatorship has been rapidly de-diversifying by making it impossible for private industry to obtain raw materials or spare parts due to currency controls where the kleptocracy hordes all of the foreign reserves, AS WELL AS “nationalizing” (stealing) factories, businesses, and retailers, putting military and other cronies in charge, who immediately strip said retail stores and other businesses of all assets, leaving behind hollowed out husks incapable of ever operating again.
Begs the question: where do the Venezuelan NG troops get *their* soap and shampoo? And the polish to keep their jackboots shined?
Guess my 2 year supply of soap and shampoo for 8 will come in handy.
Ditto on stock on hand...even if just for one...and sharing!

We are 20 miles north of Dallas and it’s been raining all day, at 7pm temp. is 34 and dropping fast; that rain is already turning into sleet not far from us and will include freezing rain about 2 am, likely two inches of sleet, ice on the ground by 6 am and roads will dangerous tomorrow morning. Why tell you that? Well, Bob went to the grocery to get a few items and the place was packed with people cleaning out the store.
One would think they had little food at home - well, maybe that’s it. Probably every family member has a fancy type cell phone and pad, but food? Maybe not.
Won’t surprise me if ice accumulates on trees and they go down and take out power. Our lines are underground in this subdivision, but others are not that way. We will be okay if power goes out, plus we have a large bus RV that has full tank of propane to heat it.
If you, too, are socked in by ice, don’t get brave and go outside and fall and break your leg/hip,etc. :o)
We've had to do that with our ill managed US grocery store for decades.
a black market salesman offered to sell him a pack of 32 diapers for 950 bolivars
Guess he never heard of cloth diapers.
She now hopes to travel to neighboring Colombia to buy one -- and enough supplies for a full year.
Except they jail people doing this. Soetoro is taking notes.
I made 3 pounds of soap today. I wash my thick hair with it too, no need for conditioner with this recipe... And we have hard water. Soap is easy to make. You can even make a form of lye from wood ash for making soap.
The best soap is made with lard or tallow. I recently found one recipe using bacon grease, but I use our bacon grease for frying ‘tators and sautéing some veggies.
I still have not tried making real liquid soap. I do make our liquid washing machine soap with a mix of grated bar soap, borax and washing soda. The recipe makes 5 gallons of concentrate, 10 gallons altogether for less the 10 bucks.
for later
Please, share your recipes for soap and washing machine liquid. Would it be too harsh or greasy for a septic tank? The store bought powder laundry detergent used to clog the pipes so we had to go with a liquid. I handwash dishes as that detergent doesn’t like the water or something but dishwashers don’t wash well and break. Cheap liquid Ajax laundry and dish soap work fine. We use cheap Suave and VO-5 shampoo. There’s a recycled small bottle on the counter with half liquid Ajax dish soap and half water for hand soap.
Unless you object, consider that graphic stolen!
No objections whatsoever :-)
