Apple, the maker of the popular iPhone, iPad, and computers, is the subject of a new letter by human rights campaigners who are concerned that the electronics giant is facilitating forced abortions in China with its pregnancy testing policies.

The “i” now stands for infanticide.
The reward for doing business with the ChiComs so we can buy cheap crap.
Ummm ... are they saying that Apple is responsible for China’s “one child policy” ... ??? ...
If it were anyone else saying this, I’d be thinking: “shakedown”.
I’m reading the following and I’m saying ... HUH?!
— — —
Littlejohn continued, We want to know what has happened to women at Apple factories when they have been found to be pregnant without a birth permit. Have they been referred for a forced abortion or involuntary sterilization? With the one child/forced abortion law in place, how can Apple assure consumers that its products are made in facilities free of coercive population control?
— — —
The “HUH!” part is ... “Apple issues ‘birth permits?!”
AND THEN ... the other “HUH!” part is ... when there is a Chinese law for FORCED ABORTION ... how does Apple UNDO CHINA LAW?!
SO ... I would like to know if Apple is ISSUONG BIRTH PERMITS, and secondly how does Apple NULLIFY China Law?
Exactly. With this twisted logic any company doing biz in China is likewise guilty.
Whose computers do you recommend, VanDeKoik? Surely there’s one you have in mind that does not source from China? You seem so confident in your assertions, so don’t be shy.
Who would have thought?
Ummm ... he belongs to the APPLE-HATER CULT on Free Republic. He jumps in on all Apple threads, saying how bad Apple is, the worst company ever, that he would have nothing to do with them, that people are stupid for getting Apple products ... etc. and etc. ... ad nauseam ... :-) ...
It really doesn’t matter to him what other companies (who market products in the USA) are doing in China ... ONLY what fits his OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) with Apple.
This APPLE-HATER CULT on Free Republic is the worst case of OCD that I’ve ever seen in my life ... and is quite amazing.
I don’t know how someone can be a true FReeper and be that way.
“Whose computers do you recommend, VanDeKoik? Surely “theres one you have in mind that does not source from China? You seem so confident in your assertions, so dont be shy.”
Buy whatever you want.
Are you more offended by my post because it dares pokes at the Holy Apple corporation? I’m not the one that has the procedure stated in this article.
Maybe those pesky pro-lifers are “Apple haters” too?
I guess we can put pro-lifers along with people that speak out against militant homosexuals as two more enemies of the FR iCult?
I’m amused at your selective outrage. Name one computer manufacturer that doesn’t source from China and therefore can’t be slurred similarly via guilt by association.
Go ahead, we’re all on pins and needles here, VanDeKoik, lol.
“It really doesnt matter to him what other companies (who market products in the USA) are doing in China ... ONLY what fits his OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) with Apple.”
You are seriously f*cking pathetic.
Apple is the only company with an official cheerleading section on this site. The only company with a group of fools that will defend crap that they do (or just cowardly run away) that run completely opposite of conservative beliefs. That will rather rip into posters for pointing out their leftist behavior than to work up even the slightest criticism of them because their stupid products have a greater importance to them.
If you can run cover for them for stuff like this, then why the hell are you even on FR?
I guess we should all just shut up? Hell those kids likely would have grown up to be “Apple haters” anyway, right?
Selective outrage?
Ok. Produce an article that shows Microsoft, Google, Samsung or any other companies with a similar set-up as exposed in this article, and I’ll say the SAME THING then.
The only selective outrage are the Apple fanatics that want to selectively shove this under the rug.
The Communists issue the birth permits.
Not Apple.
This article is really about whether or not Apple protects it’s employees from the communist government policies.
The answer is no. Apple cannot. And the premise is off a bit in that Apple is probably not the employer company, but is buying from the manufacturing company that employs the women in question.
There never should have been this sort of business done in China under the Communists in the first place, but that Pandora’s Box was opened a long time ago.
It would be better to move these manufacturings to Mexico or central America for two reasons. 1) Mexico does not force abortions and force limits of children. 2) More jobs in Mexico and Central America means less illegal immigrants coming here across the river.
“... any company doing biz in China is likewise guilty.”
Yes.
I believe China no longer has a “one child policy”.
As of, a couple of years now.
That was the plan with NAFTA but Ross Perot’s great big sucking sound ended up originating a few short years later in China. From a textile insider’s perspective, Mexico can be difficult for a variety of reasons. Central America is better. But, cost favors Asia, specifically China, still. Rising labor cost is shifting the bleeding edge into Bangladesh and the like, but practical reality dictates China for most. I’m accustomed to it now and don’t begrudge the business to the individuals with whom I’ve worked, many of whom are very decent, dedicated people regardless of the nature of their country. But, I still long for the day of a return to domestic sourcing. The immediacy of product development, the benefits of R&D and capital expenditure remaining in the regional economy, the employment. I like making things, and I like seeing them come to fruition, it’s very rewarding to me. Watching it happening from afar and managing the process is just not as rewarding.
Nice post.
Cost and a lot of other factors favors China.
You said, “There never should have been this sort of business done in China under the Communists in the first place, but that Pandoras Box was opened a long time ago.”
Let’s talk to good ole President Nixon about that! But since he’s dead now, you might have to talk to Henry Kissinger instead ... :-) ...
It is quite amazing that Nixon did this with China. As a result of President Nixon, we have the present state of affairs with China, today!
Nixon f-ed up with the EPA too.
