Joe D. had 369 strike outs over his 13 year playing career with a 3 year military service interlude in the middle. He averaged 34 strike outs per season. In 1941 he struck out 13 times in 622 plate appearances, with a .357 average. Pretty amazing.

More like the school of appealing to the lowest denominator fan. Lowest denominator fans thinks scoring = excitement. It’s the way the NFL and NBA have went in recent years, not that baseball hasn’t also adjusted for more offense in the past.
The problem is that runs and putting the ball in play are way down AND the game takes longer than it ever has. But in baseball more scoring and ‘action’ also generally will mean longer games.
