Democrats on the Federal Elections Commission have begun the process of monitoring speech and press on the internet in order to supposedly tackle the issue of “too much money in politics.” The claim is that powerful corporations and rich “fat cats” are anonymously influencing elections through support of various blogs, news sites, and video publications online.
The internet has turned the entire political dynamic in the United States on its head. People now have access to an unlimited wealth of information about every topic pertinent to policymaking. They don’t have to wait for an elected official or the mainstream media to explain an issue through the lens of his or her opinion or position of political expediency. Voters can instead form their own educated opinions on issues and access relevant information without a biased middleman. This is great for our democracy, but liberals fear unfiltered information because their policies are so unpopular.
Experts and professionals in all fields can use the internet to instantly reach wide audiences without having to wait for a precious opportunity of 30 seconds on the evening news or 500 words in the city paper. Passionate bloggers and organizations can take this expert-produced content, analyze, praise or critique it, and push the combined content out even further into the reaches of cyberspace. Democrats, however, despite their claimed “liberal” beliefs, seem to have a problem with all this free speech and are seeking to cut it off at the source.
Democratic FEC Commissioner Ann Ravel now wants bloggers and YouTubers that are talking about politics and all things related to comply with onerous regulations and disclosure requirements. She wants individuals and organizations that post things even remotely political online to register with her federal agency, disclose their funding sources, and stamp disclaimers on all of their content...

The Democrats say we can’t have freedom, freespeech on the internet. Sites like FR will have to e regulated.
After decades of phony “common sense gun control” it has come to this.

They don’t like being exposed. And this will work the same way as the IRS and conservative organizations did.
And why are the Republicans in D.C. not screaming BLOODY MURDER over this?
Does the rationale that supported the Federal Communications Act and allowed it to pass constitutional muster truly apply to the present field of communications? I suggest that you challenge any FCC ruling that says that it does sooner rather than later.
I have been wondering about this since I read about the Federal Elections Commission would try to regulate the internet - my question was will they find a way to shut down Free Republic? Every agency connected to Obama is evil and I think they will find a way to shut FR down.
Likely, they will say this website offers only one view on politics (conservative right) and that is not fair, so it gets shut down.
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that most of the stupid, evil, illegal stuff done in the Obama administration era has been/is done by women.
I can say this because I am a woman myself.

Let me understand this latest Democrat ‘talking point’ - allegedly, “corporations are unfairly funding Internet sites”.
So THAT”S the reason we have FReepathons, ‘cause we are so well funded by the ‘Fat Cats’. Hmmn, I am a FR ‘funder’, so why won’t the Democrats tell me where they are hiding my corporate wealth?
It’s MINE! They said I have it, so either they plan to steal it or they should take me to it.

I’d likely not fare well with Government moderators running loose.
Over-reach of a scale like that might produce unfavorable and dangerous results.
