Tulsa under winter storm warning; 3-7 inches of snow, sleet forecast

A winter storm could dump 3 to 7 inches of snow and sleet in the Tulsa area overnight into Monday, forecasters said.

Tulsa and surrounding counties are under a winter storm warning from until noon Monday.

"Travel will become very hazardous," the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters said snow was likely to continue early Monday, with chances of precipitation in the Tulsa area around 70 percent. The winter storm started Sunday as freezing rain, then drizzle before changing over to snow.

"Around 3 to 7 inches of snow and sleet accumulation is expected mainly north of (U.S.) 412, with the highest totals near the Kansas border," forecasters said.

"Areas between (U.S.) 412 and Interstate 40 may see around 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet, with ice accumulations around a quarter of an inch or less."

Well ... it's been coming down with a mixture of sleet and rain ... with the temperature below freezing by a number of degrees, thereby making the rain turn to ice on hitting things. It may turn to snow in the next few hours, but I don't know yet. It's been coming down like this for almost two hours. I see the plows and sand trucks staging around town, as I was out and about, a couple of hours ago. If the ice gets too heavy, we'll start to have power outages, too. There's nothing yet, though. I wouldn't be driving out there now without chains, as it's probably sheet ice on the streets!

“Anybody seen Al Gore lately?”

He got trapped by some inconvenient snowmen with carrots for noses.

Fish with a nylon line with a frayed end, and that's all.....They catch their teeth in that..and can't come loose.

You can jazz up the end with stuff...but just make sure it's frayed up. Works like a charm.....

Minus 3 right now in Boston, with 95’’ of snow this winter, almost all of it within the past 3 weeks.

In Oregon I used to chain up with those V-bar chains on my car, and I could chew my way up a steep hill on solid ice ... :-) ...

When there was a “Silver Thaw” as it was called back in Oregon, I’d chain up and drive around!

I really don’t see people chaining up here like I did in Oregon, but then again it was the LAW there, you had to chain up in spots! There were a few roads right in the city of Portland where chaining up was required (on those icy Silver Thaw days). Anyway, I always had chains in the trunk.
