The reason liberals are so initially paralyzed is due to their basic liberal ethos, which refuses to allow that there is a God with moral laws, and consequences for obedience and disobedience, and a real devil who comes to steal, kill and destroy. (Jn. 10)
And that as man is fallen due to assent to the latter and disobedience, then he is prone to sin, and thus moral laws are required, and things from modest public apparel to spanking and war. As they basically follow the devil who presumed to "climb up to power some other way" than by faithfulness, then they have a deep seated animosity to such old time values as meriting benefits and not rewarding slothfulness and indolence (leaving mercy and grace to be just that) and other immutable moral values, and instead they foster a victim mentality that sees "man as being good till Biblical type conservatives corrupt or provoke them," and that their deprivation is due to the oppression of the latter. After all, it worked with Eve.
In their demonic estimation of themselves, these elites see themselves as deserving to be as gods, as the devil presumed to be as God, (Is, 14:13,14) and they gain the power they lust for by fostering said victim mentality, and then presenting themselves as the savior/advocates for the oppressed. As the devil did with Eve (Gn. 3) and the Communists did (though the latter had some degree of actual injustice to deal with).
And under which there is only one class - which all end up in dependance upon and serving the dear (selfish) leaders who "delivered them" - at the expense of others - into far worse oppression than whatever they might have been under before.
For decades they have implicitly believed that once they get rid of leaders who subscribe to the old values and replace with those who wholly subscribe to their demonic victim mentality, then men like Hitler/Stalin etc. and wars would fade away. And indeed they must in order for the liberal elite to reign over all.
Thus when ISIS manifests the basic depravity of man and the reality of the classic devil, they are bewildered and hope it will just go away, like the drug induced bad trip 60's liberals had, while fostering their absurd liberal ethos under the influence of drugs.
And as the priority is securing their own power, and as they cannot allow that their ethos is perverse, and as they see Islam as allies and victims of Christianity which they war against, then their policies can be expected to work toward that end. However contradictory and destructive it is.
