Fort Carson brigade headed to Kuwait for possible showdown with the Islamic State

As Congress mulls America's war with the Islamic State terror group, more than 4,000 Fort Carson soldiers prepared Thursday to leave Colorado for Kuwait, where they will take over as America's largest ground force in the troubled region.

The 3rd Brigade Combat Team bid farewell to the post in a ceremony and will head off soon to serve as U.S. Central Command's Reserve force in the Middle East - the first soldiers into battle if a major combat force is used to battle Islamic State fighters.

The unit is Fort Carson's heaviest force, armed with tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles. Many of its soldiers are veterans of one or more of the brigade's four combat tours in Iraq.

"We're no strangers to deployment," the brigade's commander, Col. Greg Sierra told a crowd gathered for the ceremony.

Sierra's soldiers have trained for more than a year for the Kuwait mission. They practiced skills that atrophied over more than a decade of counterinsurgency fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, re-learning the armored combat skills last used in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Will the Obama boot lickers who praised the pullout a few years ago now protest the escalation in the war against ISIS?

ISIS is about to find out what it means to be the JV team.

This might just be another ‘look everybody, I’m doing something about ISIS’ move by Obama. Otherwise, he is STALLING on any sort of offensive against ISIS in order for them to continue their rampage, rape and slaughter of Christians. When the extermination of Christians from the Middle East is complete, THEN 0bama will move in to stop ISIS from killing other Muslims.

And so the "squeeze" will soon be on:

These troops from the South...

Jordan from the Southwest...

Except that their presence, I think, isn't only for potential IS engagement.

Yemen is directly South of Kuwait -- with only Saudi territory in between.

It also serves as a defensive posture...a warning for whatever Yemen "instabilities"

Some muslims hate being attacked by other muslims so America must stop them. When Christians are being attacked obama send no one.

"We're no strangers to deployment,"

For the troops and their families, that is unfortunately true.

This isn’t an escalation, it’s a rotation. Just replacing the combat brigade that’s there now.

Did I miss the congressional authorization?

Is that part of the Constitution a dead letter too?

My sympathies to all those being deployed; I fear they won’t be given a clear mission, won’t be able to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and will just be more casualties in another of the endless no-win US “wars”

There’s just nothing to be pleased about with this.

First and foremost we already fought this war. It is beyond the imagination that this president who gave up the territory should be allowed to do this now after failing so miserably. We should NOT be doing this over again so soon.

Second it is just not likely we will be able to bring the same level of force to bear that we did last time. This is going to be a harder fight. Saddam’s men mostly surrendered and were not in “full jihad” mode like these guys are.

Third we don’t really know what our commander in chief has in mind. Putting some men here and there just exposes them to hard when they may not really be going over there to get anything done but instead to be for show.

It’s just not good no matter how you try to look at it.

“It’s just not good no matter how you try to look at it.”

Well why I will agree with you on the matter of putting our troops and our treasury in harms way. The “goodness” here is that it’s putting Obola’s tit in a wringer! He’s out of any “good” options for him personally.

My guess is that this is just the normal rotation of the combat brigade that has been kept in Kuwait before and after Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn. And with bh0’s new request for ‘war approval’ they won’t be going anywhere except to gunnery ranges and visits to the beach and perhaps a couple of week’s leave in Europe.

You are absolutely correct. Arm the hell out whoever says they are on our side (today), then let them fight it out between themselves. Once a winner (either side) is decided go in and obliterate the winner. F..the sunnis, shiites, whahabbis, Bokco Harlems, whatever, pick out the last man standing and show them “crusader’s jihad”. The animals deserve it.

We still have 3 B52 bomber wings and 7 squadrons that are active based in Louisiana and South Dakota. They can fly close air support where needed. Hopefully, A10 Warthogs will be accompanying them.
But, our Imam in Chief will never do that.

A deployment to Kuwait is authorized by prior Congressional authorization.

My concern, which you seem to share, is that because of the utter incompetence of the regime troops may be deployed from Kuwait with no clear mission and/or so handcuffed by ridiculous rules of engagement that they can't accomplish their mission.

Aren’t there still B-52’s at Diego Garcia?

“52’s at Diego Garcia...”
There are only 76 remaining operational B52’s, and they are based in Louisiana and at Minot.
