More than two years after Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 schoolchildren and six faculty members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., as well as killing his mother and himself, a state commission released a draft report of a wide-ranging set of recommendations on Thursday with the goal of preventing such killings.

None of them would have prevented Newtown, though, but that doesn’t matter. Never let a crisis go to waste.

He would have been much more deadly if had brought a dozen chains, padlocks and a Bic lighter.

Seems like the main recommendation is classroom doors that lock from the inside.

The report noted that no active shooter has EVER breached a locked classroom.

Seems like an actual, common sense, low cost step that could actually enhance safety without infringing on anyone’s rights. Sadly, that means it will probably never happen.

Depends on the kind of door too! If they have windows, they can easily be breached, whether or not they are locked.

“The report noted that no active shooter has EVER breached a locked classroom.”

No active shooter has preplanned for that contingency. Now that the plan is out, though, an evil person knows what obstacle needs a solution.

Some school doors have those slot windows with the safety wire embedded in the glass. Woe unto anyone that gets an arm through and tries unlocking the door.
