If there ceases to be a monetary reward for whining about “inequality” and “segregation”; blacks will choose to live in black communities where black culture is dominant. Liberals have forced integration on everyone. As a result, no one is really free; no one is really happy.
San Francisco has likely not had legally segregated schools within living memory. However, public school students are largely drawn from the surrounding neighborhood. In the 1970s, Boston, like San Francisco a liberal city with no modern history of racial segregation, started a busing program for racial integration. The effect of the forced busing was to drive whites out of the city into the suburbs or out of the public school system into private and parochial schools. The reaction of Boston whites was similar to that of whites in Dallas, a Southern and (then) conservative city with a long history of racial segregation.
The bottom line is that whites, irrespective of their ideology or social class, do not want to have their children in a largely black environment. Liberals, whether in the 1970s or the 2010s, are hypocritical in this matter. However, common sense and the instinct to protect their children often prevail, even among leftists.
