An Albuquerque man has been ordered to pay nearly $180,000 in restitution for the theft of government funds.
Prosecutors say 57-year-old Scott Till was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation in the case.
Till pleaded guilty last October to taking money in November 2011 from the Department of Veterans Affairs that he wasn't entitled to receive.
Prosecutors say Till isn't a veteran. They say he kept open a bank account into which the Department of Veterans Affairs was depositing money and he maintained sole access to the funds.
Till was ordered to pay $179,491 in restitution to the VA.
This is just a drop in the ocean of illegally obtained federal money. Fraud and theft of government money runs into the tens of billions of dollars every year.
Small potatoes, the only thing the VA has over the IRS is their ability to kill Americans, and I'm sure the IRS is working on that.
Here’s my prediction. Mr. Till will begin sending in token payments towards his $180,000 restitution, maybe $100 a month.
After a few months, he’ll stop, claiming some hardship. He’ll get a letter demanding he continue to pay. Mr. Till will ignore that letter. And that will be the end of it.
Bull Dung. The VA in Albuquerque saved my dad's best friends life twice in the last 4 months, once in November and once in January.
“This is just a drop in the ocean of illegally obtained federal money.”......
“Spending” government money one is not authorized to spend amounts to the same thing as stealing the cash outright. We should take a look at moooooooooooochelle’s spending habits and then ask for the funds to be returned. What are the odds you would ever get it? Slim to none!
