A 16% sales tax?
Instead of a 38% income tax, yes. I agree with the articles quotes from the Governor that it’s not right to put all the burden of taxation on those who work and earn, better to reduce the disincentive to earn and spread some of the disincentive to spending.
If you really could implement such a plan and keep it that way, I’d be all for it.
Of course the problem is that the sales tax will never go down but the income tax will start at 21% and over time it will creep all the way back up to 38%, much like Reagan’s tax code simplification where high marginal rates were lowered in exchange for closing loopholes and then over time the marginal rate kept climbing back up but the loopholes were never reopened.
