It’s not me saying so, go google up the keywords: cost, economy, united states, substance abuse, alcohol.
Alcohol costs society as much as all other illegal drugs combined and plays a role in just about every violent crime you can imagine from murder to domestic abuse to suicide.
Why do you think so many people use the line “Hold muh beer and watch this” for humor whenever someone does something stupid and hurts themself? Because it’s true.

Bill P was a superb student and pretty good athlete in high school. He was exactly what the Naval Academy would have been looking for in the late 1960s. His dad was an old Navy Chief, retired to our little town. I was sure he was headed to a Naval commission and would have made a fine officer.
