I agree with you about the societal perspective. From the legal standpoint, if there’s currently a law regarding using the opposite-sex bathrooms, it should be enforced and have the same penalties regardless of the “gender self-identification” of the people.
I find it amazing that for liberals, a woman’s right to privacy includes publicly funded abortion but not going to the bathroom in the security that a mentally ill man in a dress can sit half clothed nearby or take a shower unclothed in the same space.
