Why is Israel even having elections, and why is Bibi even putting up with it? They have the leader they need, and this is no time to interfere or disrupt his leadership. Can’t Bibi invoke emergency powers and cancel the election until Israel’s own survival isn’t at stake?

It’s not like Iran is suddenly going to vote out the mullahs.

It’s a parliamentary system. Bibi called for the elections in hopes of gaining a stronger coalition. I suspect in anticipation of a nuclear Iran at some point in the near future. The US won’t stop them. If Israel has to, referendum makes sense. He may succeed, but there’s risk there. I don’t like parliamentary systems, but under one Obama would be gone.

Israel’s security being at stake is business as usual.

I learned that when I was planning to visit to tour the Holy sites. I was glued to the news, hanging on every border incident, inflammatory statement and threat warning. When I asked my experienced friend if he thought that it would be safe at that time, he assured me that is always like that - don’t worry, just go.

We went, and it was well worth it. I’d recommend that everyone visit.

They have really good intel. If there is a real problem, they would know about it. For it to be bad enough to cancel an election, everyone would be mobilized and in the field with their units.
