At 1:20 p.m., USC posted an alert on their website and tweeted it to students saying that shots were fired at the New School of Public Health. Students were told to seek safe shelter and obey officials.
The shots were reportedly fired at the School of Public Health building that is on Assembly Street near the School of Music.
WISTV is Columbia is reporting that several police agencies are responding to reports of an active shooter. WISTV said that a police officer told them at 1:40 p.m. there was still an active shooter on campus.
WISTV reported that an ambulance departed from the location at 2 p.m. with the sirens on.
Students staff and faculty have been warned to seek shelter immediately.
The University's School of Law tweeted classes are canceled until further notice.
Workers in the State House have been warned to stay inside, but the grounds are not on lockdown.
Security officers at the State House say they are performing building checks and are patrolling the area.

When I first saw “USC” I thought Southern Cal. Wouldn’t have been a surprise given the neighborhood it’s in. If my memory is correct a Trojan football player was injured by a stray bullet during football practice years ago. I’m sure the practice field is a “gun free zone.”
