These maneuvers were scheduled two months ago, but I get the impression that Russia is trying to send someone a message with this. Are they listening? Or do they just not care?

After Obama's statement about sending high-tech weapons to Ukraine, Putin said today that it would have "irreversible consequences".

I just read on a Russian language webpage that the Georgians and oppressing the Armenians in the Georgian province of Samtskhe Javakheti. That is an Armenian-majority province politically within the Republic of Georgia on the Armenian border. The strategically vital Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline runs through it. I would watch that situation very carefully. If the Russians take control of that pipeline - using Georgian oppression of the native Armenians as a pretext for a military incursion - they’ll control one of the key remaining non-Russian controlled east-west oil and gas pipelines. Maybe they’ll even invade Adjaria and take out the strategic Black Sea port of Batumi. Then Putin will call the EU and see what can be done about those sanctions. The Euros are wissies and they’ll cave for sure.

Putin is trying to buy the image of being militarily powerful, on the cheap.

I guess most of this silly blustering is for the Russian people, since NATO military leaders aren’t fooled by all these flyovers and sending ships into new areas and the empty posturing.

From the conservative point of view, and the Western military leader’s point of view, it serves the purpose of encouraging the Western voters to take defense from Russia seriously, and helps win political support for better defenses, something that is useful to us that must deal with Russia.

Looks like the 1980’s want their foreign policy back but Barak Obama refuses to return it.

Does this come under the heading of the Obama Administration's “Smart Diplomacy”, “Aggressive Diplomacy” or Hillary Clinton's “Reset”. (ominously and ironically embodied by the very same red push button that used to signify the red doomsday nuclear launch panic button of the 1980’s )

This is normal....nothing to see here....typical Russian training....like this ghost sneaking up on this baby...what could go wrong??? I mean - that is a real ghost - and I'm sure Putin's army is just practicing - not actually going to invade...that's not real (sarc/)

We did our NBC Warfare training every 6 months. I didn’t mind the charcoal suit in January, but it really sucked in July......especially in Augusta, Georgia.

Bring it. The difficult part of the zombie apocolypse would be pretending to not be excited.

oh my gosh! “irreversible consequences”...what do you think that means?

Do you think he might attack a sovereign nation and take it over? Oh wait....think he already did that.

Or do you think “irreversible consequences” might mean Ukraine kicking the crap out of the Russians for invading their country?

What do you think, comrade?

About one month ago US cargo plane delivered to Ukraine something under big secrecy. They say cases were marked with radioactivity signs. Rumors were it were portable nukes for arranging provocation with it during planned in January Ukraine's army attack and blaming Russia for it. It sure would cause worldwide condemning Putin and political and economic isolation of Russia. But this rumor died gradually.
Quite possible this plane delivered fuel rods for Ukrainian nuclear power station. They had serious accidents with US made uranium rods because of different technical characteristics, may be they will keep trying until achieving Chernobyl-II.

Here’s a good article on the Samtskhe Javaheti situation. I quibble with the author in that I think that instead of launching the attack from Armenia, Putin will first seize Adjaria.
