I have heard that teaching before and I agree with this it.

Centuries ago, the parable of the fig tree must have been unsolvable. But we know from the old testament the fig tree is a symbol for Israel. As for a generation, the Bible does say this:

Psalm 90:10

"We live for 70 years, or 80 years if we're healthy, yet even in the prime years there are troubles and sorrow. They pass by quickly and we fly away."

1948 + 70 years = 2018
