VICTORY AT LAST: KURDS CELEBRATE OUSTING ISLAMIC STATE FIGHTERS FROM KOBANI

BEIRUT (AP) -- Jubilant Kurdish fighters ousted Islamic State militants from the key Syrian border town of Kobani on Monday after a four-month battle - a significant victory for both the Kurds and the U.S.-led coalition.

The Kurds raised their flag on a hill that once flew the Islamic State group's black banner. On Kobani's war-ravaged streets, gunmen fired in the air in celebration, male and female fighters embraced, and troops danced in their baggy uniforms.

The failure to capture Kobani was a major blow to the extremists whose hopes for an easy victory dissolved into a costly siege under withering airstrikes by coalition forces and an assault by the Kurdish militia.

For the U.S. and its partners, Kobani became a strategic prize, especially after they increased the number of airstrikes against IS fighters there in October.

To Our God be glory for answering prayers. There must be somewhere peaceful middle east people can go without ISIS. Let us hope the Kurds can hold that strategic city of Kobani.

Iraqi victory claimed over ISIS in Diyala

A large-scale military operation to reclaim Iraq’s Diyala Province from ISIS was successful, Iraqi transportation minister Hadi al-Amiri said Sunday.

The operation started last week, and at least 58 people — including two journalists — were killed. Nearly 300 others were wounded.

In a televised news conference Sunday, al-Ameri, who is also the head of the a powerful Shiite militia, said the province was “liberated” from ISIS.

Al-Amiri said that Iraqi security forces are searching for ISIS militants who fled into orchards and farms in remote areas.

Diyala Police commander Brig. Gen. Jamil Kamel al-Shamari also announced that Diyala is now under full control of Iraqi security forces.

Obama had nothing to do with the Kurds winning in Kobani.

Hopefully some of the tamer Muslims can defeat ISIS and make the way for better circumstances for the Christians in Middle East.

ISIS’ Stalingrad.

By not supporting the Kurds we show that we are pro-ISIS.

We’re not supporting the anti-houtsis in Yemen either.

The anti-Houthis in Yemen are, a lot of them, Al Quaeda, the guys we have been bombing.
That is another Sunni-Shiite war a la Iraq, with some very similar players, or rather a three sided war (at least).
Lucky for the Saudis is that the Houthis have the north of Yemen and the Sunnis the south, so the AQ types have to get through the Shiites to make trouble in Saudi. Its sort of a religious geographic sandwich.
Its an unholy mess anyway.

May God Bless the Kurds, and somehow use their struggle to show them the true path.

I would LOVE to meet these folks in heaven someday and give them a big hug.

That is an unholy sandwich, indeed. You're saying that the Shiites, who are supported by Iran and therefore have no love for the Saudis, are the bulwark between them and the more radical Al Qaeda Sunnis, who although co-religionists to the Saudis, want to get at them? The Middle East give me a headache.

You got it.
The AQ Sunnis are much more dangerous to the Saudis as they have an appeal to the majority of the Saudi population, which lives fairly nearby near the Red Sea Coast - Jiddah, Mecca, Medina, etc., and lots of friends in high places, as we know.
The Shiites/Houthis in this case have friends only of rather different brands of Shiites (the differences between Shiites are good for several headaches) who are a monster desert away along the Persian Gulf (or the Arabian Gulf for Arabs).
So The Houthis are unlikely to serve as a sanctuary for AQ terrorists and guerrillas.
