Oklahoma Proud to be 'Red State'
Tulsa World ^ | Sunday, January 25, 2015 | Randy Krehbiel

A Tulsa World analysis of voting behavior and other factors ranks Oklahoma the second-most conservative state in the nation after Utah. The Legislature convening Feb. 2 will be among the most Republican in the nation.

The rise of the Republican Party has brought a shift to more business-oriented policies: workers comp and lawsuit reform, reductions in income-tax rates, right to work, weakened regulatory agencies and a push for privatization of everything from education to elevator inspections.

“A lot of people think it’s Democrat versus Republican,” said former Democratic Gov. George Nigh, who was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1950. “All the time I was in politics, it was rural versus urban.”

In the 2008 Presidential Election, every single county in the state was RED, including the two major metropolitan areas of the state!

You probably did miss something ... :-) ... as the “shift” that the article is talking about goes back to 1950!

OK, but the most conservative county in the US is Glasscock County in West Texas, and I bet most of those German farmers there can outshoot any Okie........

disclaimer - I grew up there in the 60’s and 70’s.

Oklahoma is the only state with not one single county going for Obama!

Now if only they can get over that inferiority complex...

Red is the color of socialism, boy I hate this “red state” nonsense.

Anyway

<<<<<<<<<<<<“A lot of people think it’s Democrat versus Republican,” said former Democratic Gov. George Nigh, who was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1950. “All the time I was in politics, it was rural versus urban.”<<<<

And the urban areas in OK were more Republican way back when. The last bastions of rat strength in the state were the areas were cockfighting is popular.

“And the urban areas in OK were more Republican way back when.”

You could say the same thing about Northern Virginia. There was a time in the not too distant past where NoVa was the GOP’s major stronghold in the state - apart from the ‘burbs of Richmond and parts of the Tidewater.
