An Iranian general killed in an Israeli air strike in Syria was not its intended target and Israel believed it was attacking only low-ranking guerrillas, a senior Israeli security source told Reuters on Tuesday.
The source declined to be identified because Israel will not confirm or deny whether it carried out the strike.
Iranian Revolutionary Guard General Mohammed Allahdadi was killed along with a Hezbollah commander and the son of the group's late military leader, Imad Muughniyeh, in Sunday's attack on a Hezbollah convoy near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

You do not get many chances for so many high-value targets in one location very often. When you do, it's foolish to waste them. They didn't.
Don't think for a second this wasn't also a message to Obama: These guys were up to no good and this is what "normalization" of relations looks like to Iran.
Don’t apologize to these Godless death cult monkeys. Double-down. Attack them where they sleep.
It sounds top me like the Iranian general was in the right place at the right time.
Israeli Security Source: We Didn’t Know Iranian General Was At Site Of Syria Strike
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ah well. Them Iranians are such forgiving people. They probably wont retaliate or something. Not like they would ever want to “wipe Israel off the face of the earth” or anything.
“But if we had, we’d have hit it twice”
Israeli intelligence is hardly perfect. Don’t forget there’s an extreme surrender-monkey left in Israel, and they are represented in the military and intelligence. They aren’t above setting others up to look bad. That said, you’re probably exactly right and this was a plausible-deniability message to Obama about inviting Iranians to Israel’s borders.
.....and harder than Laz would’ve.
As they say in Yiddish ... Tough Shitsky!
Aww shucks... Magic mullah facilitator meets his virgins...
Unanticipated bonus!
If it was a “mistake” on the Israeli’s part, who cares. A top ranking commander of another merry band of Islamic terrorists is hardly a loss to the world.
Hey, they got a two-fer!...............
Inshallah................
You are correct about elements within the military and government. Many at the source paper, Haaretz, are among those types. If Netanyahu were not calling the shots, I believe they may have targeted the low ranks to send a message.
BONUS!
Two old quotes come to mind. “Never apologize. It’s a sign of weakness.” and “There is no such thing as a coincidence.”
“We didn’t know an Iranian General was there”...”or else we would have sent more planes.”
When it comes to Israeli special-ops, there seems to be a special kind of apology that's aimed at the brass in these camel dictatorshipsthe in-your-face apology. It doesn't make one feel confident: "Oh, gee, I can't believe we hit a flag officer. Just an accident. It's not as if we've been following him since he left Iran, visited his mistress, went to the diner, and then showed up to advise the murderers we watch 24 hours a day on the Golan Heights."
So sorry, losers. Oh, and you know what? We know where all of you live.
You are judged by your friends.
“Don’t think for a second this wasn’t also a message to Obama”
Good thing the Israelis didn’t give advance notice of the strike to the Obozo administration. Who knows who might have sent the general a warning a la Nicholas Brody?
