Iran and Russia signed an agreement Tuesday to expand military ties in a visit to Tehran by the Russian defense minister.
Sergei Shoigu, in remarks carried by Russian news agencies, said Moscow wants to develop a "long-term and multifaceted" military relationship with Iran. He said that the new agreement includes expanded counter-terrorism cooperation, exchanges of military personnel for training purposes and an understanding for each country's navy to more frequently use the other's ports.
Iran's Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan urged greater cooperation as a means of opposing American ambitions in the region. Moscow and Tehran have staunchly supported Syrian President Bashar Assad throughout Syria's civil war, while Washington advocates regime change and supports rebel groups.
"Iran and Russia are able to confront the expansionist intervention and greed of the United States through cooperation, synergy and activating strategic potential capacities," Dehghan said. "As two neighbors, Iran and Russia have common viewpoints toward political, regional and global issues."

The Russians have been trying to achieve this for SIXTY-FIVE YEARS, acquiring a Blue-Water port with a secure line of supply.
It's why they destabilized Iran under the Shaw. It's why they invaded Afghanistan.

My childhood pal was in military intelligence gathering, when the Shah was deposed. The US lost an immeasurably valuable asset, with monitoring posts located right on the border of the USSR.
He said it was a commonly held opinion, in his circles, that this was a criminal conspiracy.
The strategic consequences of a Russian Blue-water Navy base cannot be underestimated.
Let's not forget however that prior to that Syria and Jordan will be wiped out first.
This is not any degree of support for Vlad or his evil regime, it is a simple statement of fact, in the war of strategic wits, barry goes unarmed.

In before the Russian/Putinista apologists come to defend their Comrade as a strong, Christian, conservative, bear-riding champion of the civilized world.
Prelude to WWIII
That would be one but remember that was really only a prayer. If we look at the countries mentioned in the prayer we see Jordan, The West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iran and Iraq. While they are all nations who want Israel destroyed they are not all in one battle as we can see in Ezekiel 38-39. Those countries are Russia, Eastern Turkey, Iran, Ethiopia, Lybia, Saudi Arabia, Eastern Europe, and Spain. So if you compare the two lists you see that Syria, the West Bank, Iraq and Jordan are missing from the battle of Ezekiel 38-39. I mention all that because the prayer in Psalm 83 does not reference a battle as such but is a prayer for God to eliminate all the nations against Israel. There has to be a battle prior to the battle of Ezekiel 38-39 which eliminates Syria, The West Bank, Iraq, and Jordan.
Isaiah 17 speaks of he destruction of Damscus, Syria. The battle of Isaiah 17, most believe, must happen before the battle of Ezekiel 38-39 and it's interesting to note that Damascus will be destroyed in one night and in Isaiah 17:14 it says In the evening, sudden terror! Before the morning, they are gone! But notice in that battle Israel takes a beating also.
It's fixin to get ugly over there.
