Speaker of the House John Boehner has rewarded Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), one of the most well known candidates who challenged him in his successful effort to be re-elected Speaker, with a powerful Subcommittee Chairmanship.
The news that Gohmert and others who publicly rebelled against Boehner have received gavels to chair powerful House subcommittees rather than one-way tickets to the House basement has angered several Boehner loyalists.
On Thursday, Gohmert said he had been named chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the Natural Resources Committee.
According to current practice in the House, committee chairmen have the authority to select their own subcommittee chairmen.
But if Speaker Boehner had explicitly told Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT), whom he selected, that he did not want Gohmert as a subcommittee chairman in that committee, it is a virtual certainty that Gohmert would not have received the appointment.
An anonymous Boehner loyalist serving in the House told the National Journal the appointment of Gohmert as chairman of a subcommittee is a major slap in the face.
Another rebel who voted against Boehners re-election as Speaker, Representative Mark Meadows (R-NC), was also named chairman of a subcommittee.

In victory, magnanimity”

“Now don’t you ever do that again, Louie!”
Perhaps there is hope for Boehner after all. Any of the “conservatives” upset with Boehner for doing this would be upset because they have betrayed their supposed conservatives beliefs and have marked themselves for future handling by the base, a base they clearly despise and betray at first opportunity.
Maybe it's because because the challenges were such a joke its like it was planned by Boehner himself, like a setup.
Rep. Louie Gohmert never voted, IIRC.
I’ll wait to see what he’s given KS Rep. Tim Huelskamp, whom he had stripped of everything last year because Tim didn’t “play nice” with the establishment, before deciding Boehner’s showing magnanimity.
This is a putid attempt to placate the TEA PARTY. It won’t work. Boehner sucks. His is a pathetic rino liberal amnesty loving POFC. Go to Hell!!

Tell us his name so that we will know not to trust his judgment.
The melted-down phone lines calling for Boehner’s ouster rattled him.
I wonder if the conservatives actually had enough votes to force a 2nd vote and Bohener negotiated with them to remain Speaker.
I prefer American Constitutional loyalists.
Some of those who voted against Boehner did it for show.
Is Steve King still on the immigration subcommittee.
Trey Gowdy almost cried when King made him look like a fool.
Here’s what these loyalists are really upset about. They sold their souls for personal gain and now they’re p-o’ed that people won’t craven aren’ being punished, that they’re getting some benefit without selling their souls. They’re angry at themselves for what they’ve become. Am I wrong?
