Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs Speaks Out About Lack of Oscars Diversity

Oscars 2015: Outrage Over All-White Acting Nominations

Film Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs has responded to the criticism that followed Thursday's Oscar nominations featuring no people of color in any acting category, making for the least racially diverse Oscars in 17 years. There were also no women nominated in the directing or writing categories.

Boone Isaacs, the first black president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, insists the academy is "committed to seeking out diversity of voice and opinion" and that outreach to women and artists of color is a major focus.

The tin man had more brains than most of the people in Hollywood have talent.

I have no sympathy for Hollywood; its great to see the leftists who run the major studios kicked in the butt for a change. This will be resolved with some “special” Award to minority-made films or associated stars on the televised night of the Oscars, plus some substantial money on the side paid to Al Sharpton who will become head, chief adviser, director or seminarian for some new foundation or other nonprofit designed to show that Hollywood “cares”.

“how many whites are nominated at the BET awards”

Racism as the cure for racism is the tool of fools.

Blacks are so overrepresented in movies and TV. Even movies set in Medieval Europe have blacks where there were few if any and somehow they’re always wiser than everyone else. It’s like every show has to have the smart gay character now. Of course, if it makes sense for the story, no problem but there are so many times when it’s forced that it’s ridiculous. And they wonder why gaming is bigger than movies these days.

Black-oriented movies tend to do badly at the box office.

Selma has earned just $18M in its first full week of wide release (plus $2M in its limited release). Black Annie earned just $58M in the four weeks it was out.

I personally have no interest in going to movies where white people are the bad guys, nor do I want to sit in a theater where the audience is majority black. Go ahead, call me racist.

Why restrict only to color? We need a quota of ISIS actors too.

Perhaps a separate but equal African-American Oscar organization is necessary, it could be an analog to the “Oscar” Oscars like the Special Olympics is an analog to the “Olympic” Olympics.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs, where have I heard that name? Oh yes, she was an award presenter last week who mistakenly introduced cinematographer Dick Pope, as Dick “Poop”, then ‘giggled’ when she recognized her error.

Talent does not count, must spread awards evenly to any and all no matter what. What a bunch of BS.
