Center for Security Policy (CSP) official Tommy Waller, who fought against Islamic jihadists "on their turf" in Afghanistan and elsewhere, said his military training did not include instruction in the ideology of the enemy, a deliberate omission that puts America in "great peril."
Waller, a Marine Reserve major, speaking via Skype at the National Press Club on Jan. 16, said he was speaking as an employee of the CSP, a conservative national security group in Washington, D.C., which released that day a new report, The Secure Freedom Strategy: A Plan for Victory Over the Global Jihad Movement.
The plan, designed by 16 experts on counter-terrorism, intelligence, the military and national security, is based on President Ronald Reagan’s plan to defeat the Communist Soviet Union.
The Secure Freedom Strategy explains that Muslims who adhere to Sharia law are behind the global jihad movement and the deadly attacks around the world on innocent people of all faiths, including other Muslims.
Waller, who is CSP's director of state outreach, said it was his hope that the strategy can help defeat that enemy. His full remarks are reproduced below:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the first thing I have to tell you is that I’m addressing you as Tommy Waller, an employee of the Center for Security Policy and not as Major Waller, a commissioned officer in the Reserve component of the Marine Corps.
“Now, why is it that I have to make that distinction? Well, it saddens me to say that if I were currently in an active duty I would have to refrain from speaking about factual information about this ideology – Sharia -- the very ideology that threatens our way of life because my words might be offensive.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I took an oath to the Constitution of the United States to defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic and when those that take an oath cannot be taught about the threat to our Constitution, which is both foreign and domestic, our nation is in great peril.
“Now I’ve deployed as an active duty Marine to numerous theaters of operations. I’ve faced the global jihad movement on their turf. And yet I was never taught what animated those Jihadists.
“Still to this day, if you attend a formal military school, you’ll find that there’s never mention of the ideology that animates our enemies.
“We speak in terms like violent extremist organizations. We never nail down the facts about what animates these organizations or, as Clare mentioned, individuals that subscribe to the ideology.
“I recently attended a school that was nearly a year long – a formal military school for commissioned officers at the field grade level. And in 10-plus months we covered information operations for less than an hour and our case study was the Communist insurgency and how we conducted propaganda operations against it in Vietnam.
“It’s mind-boggling to me how our enemies maintain absolute information dominance but it makes sense if that’s the curriculum that we have in our military’s formal schools.
“I’ve been up until this point, shocked and saddened by – and almost bewildered – by the absence void in factual analysis of our enemy on behalf of the national security community and what we face today is tantamount to the military of the Cold War being prevented from studying Communism. Being prevented from studying the ideology that they faced on the battlefield.
“And so it’s my sincere hope that my generation and those that follow it can recover the courage that our previous generation had to study the ideology of the enemy.
“I have to say that the ‘Secure Freedom Strategy’ gives me hope. It’s the first step in our generation doing a major course correction.
“And my personal request on behalf of the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice to that Constitution – in defense of that Constitution – on behalf of them, my request is that we embrace this strategy because we owe it to the generations that went before us and those that will follow us.”
At Waller’s request, the press conference ended with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Members of the “Tiger Team” include Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin; Clare Lopez, former Operations Officer in the CIA’s Clandestine Service and senior vice president for research and analysis at the CSP; Admiral James A. “Ace” Lyons, former Commander–in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet and father of the Navy Red Cell counterterrorism unit and chairman of CSP’s military committee; Dr. J. Michael Waller, expert on psychological warfare, propaganda and influence operations and a senior fellow at CSP; and Frank Gaffney, former acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy and the president of CSP.

Something tells me our soldiers, sailors, airmen, coastguardsmen, national guardsmen and marines take a crash course shortly after being deployed.
The real threat seems to me to be our elected "leaders" who know nothing of our enemies ideology.
Or do know and choose to look the other way.
The persecution of those who have tried to speak the truth in the military is outrageous and scandalous, as is the passive neglect by the Congress, so eager were they to display their “I’m not racist” bona fides.

Islam is violent and repressive, and its sacred texts are the heart of darkness at the center of the Islamic State’s inspiration and motivation, despite Barack Obama’s assertions in September 10th’s address to the nation that the Islamic State “is not Islamic” and that “no religion condones the killing of innocents.”
Violence is an integral part of Islamic doctrine, following the example set by its Prophet Mohammed, and in the name of Islam and Allah, Muslims have been murdering innocents, since 656 AD.
Six hundred years after Mohammed, one of Islam’s most respected scholars, Ibn Khuldan wrote ‘Muqaddimah’ (Introduction to History), which explained: “In the Muslim community, the holy war is religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and [the obligation to] convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or force.”
Like most good Muslims, Khaldun’s inspiration came from ‘The Verse of the Sword’, Sura 9:5, “revealed” towards the end of Mohammed’s life, as well as similar themes previous to Sura 9:
Sura 9:5__ “...kill the Mushrikun (unbelievers) wherever you find them ... But if they repent and perform As-Salat/ Iqamat-as-Salat [the Islamic ritual prayers], then leave their way free...” Also Sura 9:33__ “It is He [Allah] Who has sent His Messenger [Mohammed] with guidance and the religion of truth [Islam], to make it superior over all religions...”
The Hindu Kush, seventy-five thousand square miles between Afghanistan and Pakistan, was populated by Hindus until approximately 1000 AD and the Muslim invasions. An estimated 60 million Hindus were murdered by Muslims over a thousand year reign, and Hindu Kush is the Muslim name for the region. It means “Hindu Killer.”
Now today, the majority of the Muslim community worldwide, including the U.S., does not completely frown on their “holy warriors” in the Islamic State, Al Qaeda, Jaamat e-Islami and any other terror group one cares to mention, for fear of being called heretics or apostates themselves. The murderous “holy warriors” are following a literal interpretation of Koranic scripture, without omissions, innovation or revision. By contrast, heretical views deviate from doctrine.
The 2013 PEW Poll of the Muslim World shows that the majority of Muslims, in several countries, support the death penalty for Muslims who leave Islam, including Malaysia (58%), Egypt (88%), Jordan (83%), Afghanistan (79%), Gaza and the West Bank (62%) and Pakistan (75%); in 2006, a poll for ‘The Sunday Telegraph’ found 40% of British Muslims wanted Sharia Law in the UK and 20% supported the 7/7 bombers. And alarmingly, in 2011 nineteen percent of American Muslims stated they viewed Al Qaeda favorably, while a new poll shows 16% of the French population view the Islamic State favorably.

Sure hope that plan includes killing every damn one of the jihadists.
I have no doubt what so ever that this is true. My son was sent to Afghanistan while in the Marines back in 2010. Before deployment they were given “sensitivity training” to better “understand” the population.
As a result, before he left, he had no opinion one way or the other about Muslims and Islam. They learn real fast once they get there though. He definitely has a very informed opinion now.
He told me that they hate us and it will never change. He felt sorry for some of the people living there trying to just survive and provide for their families while not getting killed by the radicals.
You don’t need to be “taught” an ideology .. all you have to do is look at the results of it.
Thus: murder, beheadings, mayhem, rape, honor killings, sharia, denigrating everything not submitting to their ideology; THE RUINS OF THE TWIN TOWERS.

Just another disappointent from the zero-heads running things today.
There’s a really simple way to reduce the possibility that hyper aggressive fanatics from the Middle East don’t threaten our nation.
Don’t let them immigrate here and take up residence.
For those born after 1965, this is the way it was. All of us older then that remember a country where there weren’t any people like that here.
We used to say Merry Christmas too, because VIRTUALLY EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY WAS A CHRISTIAN.
So, no reason to learn about Islam! Or the deranged nature off its followers.
That was deliberate! The 1924 Immigration Act had quotas so that most people coming to the country came from the same countries the founding population did! Whatta concept! You don’t import your enemies!
But that was all overturned by Liberals and Leftists in 1965 as “racist” and now we live with human time bombs in our midst, waiting to go off.
THIS WILL NOT BE SOLVED BY SENDING MEN TO THE MIDDLE EAST CONSTANTLY. Unless of course you send a couple of B-2s with nuclear payloads and just finish the damn job once and for all.
The answer is DON’T LET THEM COME HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
They don’t believe what we believe in, they don’t have our history, they don’t even look like us.
If the Irish and the English can’t get along after living next door for 6000 years, why does anyone think we can tolerate a violent group of Arabs in our midst? Even a police state won’t make it work. There will be too many of them.

“The Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced late last week that it is representing U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Dooley, a 1994 Graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point and released the letter sent by 57 Muslim groups demanding the removal of military instructions that they say is offensive to Islam.
“In April 2012, LTC Dooley, a highly decorated combat veteran, was publically condemned by General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and relieved of his teaching assignment because of the negative way Islam was portrayed in an elective course entitled, “Perspectives on Islam and Islamic Radicalism” the release said.
“The actions against LTC Dooley, an instructor involved with this elective, follow a letter to the Department of Defense dated October 19, 2011 and finally released and was signed by 57 Muslim organizations, demanding that all training materials that they judge to be offensive to Islam be “purged” and instructors “are effectively disciplined.”
“Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center commented, “We are privileged to represent Lieutenant Colonel Dooley. He has honorably served his Nation for 18 years and effectively carried out every assigned mission with distinction. He served as Aide- de- Camp to three different General Officers and deployed to Bosnia, Kuwait, and Iraq for a total of six operational and combat tours. During that time, he received numerous awards and decorations. Now after a lifetime of service to his country, he is being sacrificed on the altar of political correctness and expediency by the Army he so loyally served and loves.”

It’s interesting the way socialists approach theological concepts but when it comes to Islam they are not the only ones who refuse to approach the issue. That even includes leading Christian clergy including Pope Francis.
Followers of Mohammed not only claim, but truly believe that God has authorized them to kill those who refuse to submit to their version of God’s will. That is a basic tenet of that religion. A claim which goes unchallanged. While it’s understandable for atheists which most socialists are, not to approach that claim on a theological basis. It’s bewildering why any Christian clergy refuse to admit it even exists and is a basic part of Islam creed and worse yet are unable to condem it.
The Koran and its enforcement of sharia law is a pseudo religious concoction using monotheistic selected texts taken and misconstrued from the new and old testaments. Both of which cite the Almighty has granted free will to accept or obey his laws and is the final judge not man. Sodom and Gahmora is a glaring example.
Yet followers of Mohammed under the severest of penalties are forbidden to read either which would refute that assertion in a creed which institutionalizes disgusting arab tribal views, observances,and customs. Claiming adhearants are authorized by our Creator to demand submission to it or suffer an ignominious death administered by followers of Islam.

Immigration isn’t the only problem any more. The Jihadis are already here and many of them were born here now. Anwar al Awlaki, chief of AQAP, was born in New Mexico.
Our US military leadership has been resistant to counterinsurgency doctrine and engaging in such fights since our Vietnam debacle. The officers and troops have been sent into Iraq and Afghanistan without a consistent and effective counterinsurgency doctrine both during Rumsfeld’s sec.of defense tenure and now during the Obama Administration.
There was a brief span of COIN leadership during the Iraq surge late in Bush’s last term when Gen. Petraeus replaced Gen. Casey in Iraq. Sec of Defense Gates allowed the Army to issue new doctrine by publishing the “Counterinsurgency Field Manual” The surge worked, but Obama was & is invested in bugging out of the Mideast, so the draw down of units over there trumps counterinsurgency actions.
The Obama fatwa of never referring to our terror enemies as Islamists has cut the heart out of information operations. If you can’t talk about what motivates the enemy, how can you fight it?
A good book on the back & forth debate on COIN training is “Knife Fights” by Lt. Col. John A. Nagl (ret.). Worth reading!

And yet the army has a psychological warfare MOS. They train men to engage in psychological warfare without correctly identifying the psychology of the enemy.
