...the US unemployment rate has fallen from 8.6% in November 2011 to 5.8% in November 2014.

BS numbers. Figures don't lie, but liars figure!

Doctor Raul once did a one-man protest outside the old Times building. When the employees coming out said something to him, he told them, “Hey, you should appreciate us. We could take Krugman off your hands.” They laughed.

Actually, I believe it was awarded because of Krugman’s work on international business siting decisions. Presumably he actually knows something about that corner of (micro-)economics and his views on it, unlike his views on macroeconomic policy, would be worth listening to. He’s analogous to a biologist with no training in ecology beyond a first year graduate course who has done groundbreaking work in cell biology pontificating about environmental issues, or a Ph.D. in solid-state physics going on about cosmology.

Thanks for that TRD. They had to base it in something and that makes good sense. His anti-Bush columns may have endeared him to some of the committee.

Krugman is in the same category as Jimmy Carter.

A great prevaricator of NON-IDEAS.

Krugman got his award from a bunch of socialists for basically saying that socialism is the best economic practice.

That's how Chilean Communist poet Pablo Neruda got his, in a society (Latin America) that until that point in the 60's had been impoverished of anything remarkable or meritorious, of any great intellectual or cultural contribution to humanity. (This was the so-called "$64,000 question of Latin American Society/history": Why aren't they more productive and accomplished?)

Communists always push their own guys, and at that time they had enough via with the Nobel Committee that they could move Neruda's name to the front of the list. Second example: Gabriel Garcia Marquez of Colombia (Love in the Time of Cholera).

I'm not saying that either of these men were devoid of merit; but they were promoted for their politica more than anything.

Despite his Nobel Prize and despite his previous high regard in the profession, his twice-a-week editorials in The New York Times are causing even progressive economists to treat him as somewhat of a kook.

They're just ferret-haters!

Erratum: Read "vig" not Spell**cker-stupefied "via" in my last.

I think Simon Bolivar was ahead of the curve on that one.

My own answer was, and still is, that their society is crypto-matriarchal. The men are weak, except when they pack up in ruthless, rootless, hypertrophically macho groups of sicarios, gangbangers, Zetas, and so on. Even then they are weak: typical cartel bangers are actually underpaid and poor and have short shelf lives.

You need to accurately label Krugman’s award....it’s really the Bank of Sweden Award, done through the Nobel mechanism. Before 1969....it didn’t exist. The bank in Sweden got involved with the process and invented the gimmick to honor economists (as if they needed it).

Krugman is a tool of the big Wall Street banks who profit the most from government debt. They are the “primary dealers” who are guaranteed profit on every new issuance of debt.
