“I don’t understand your comment.”

That’s not all you don’t understand.

If the Afghan analogy doesn’t work for you, try Bosnia on for size.

Bosnia?

Did the Bosnian Constitution guarantee the private ownership of firearms by law abiding citizens?

Not that I recall.

Did the Serbs use gun registration documents to hunt down and disarm the Bosnians?

Not that I recall.

Get a grip, Lurker.

I have always supported the 2nd Amendment.

I have always supported private gun ownership as a right and a necessity for self-defense against one-on-one crime, and against armed criminal gangs, and against other lightly armed civilians during local insurrection or anarchy.

What I do not support is the Libertarian-Hollywood fantasy world where lightly armed civilians can somehow prevail against a ruthless, tyrannical military force.

Washington, Madison, and Jefferson disagreed. I don’t think you’re half as smart as any of them.

Washington?

Would that be General Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Colonial Army, which was provisioned and paid for by the US Continental Congress?

240 years ago, the average American possessed roughly the same weapons as the British Army - muskets, swords, and knives.

Today, the average American possesses nothing that would put us on an equal footing - even against a Third World army.

Whoever taught you history owes you your money back.

Really?

Why don't you bring me up to date on the artillery the British used against the Colonial Army when they seized Bunker Hill in 1775?

I doubt that 5% of the Americans killed were hit by canon fire.

A modern day army could have cleared that hill in 5 minutes with a couple of mortar teams and a few more RPG’s.

The average modern day American does not own mortars and RPG’s.

I charge $700 per hour for instruction in American History. Freepmail me your method of payment and once it clears we will get started.

I look forward to working with you.

“...like it requires a background check before you can let your buddy hold your rifle while you cross over a fence, then requires another background check before he can hand it back.”

If you are hunting, and both have hunting licenses it is legal. If you are heading to the local gravel pit to do some plinking it is a felony. Actually, if they watch you go in and come back out it might be two felonies. At which point you lose the ability to own guns.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 started all of this mess. Am I wrong, or does the 2nd Amendment NOT include a caveat for convicted felons? Why can’t we just take the 2nd Amendment at its ORIGINAL WORDING?

Boy, you said that right!! Traditional sidearms would be no match for the advanced weaponry of the military. What can a Bushmaster do against an F-18 dropping laser-guided bombs while flying at near the speed of sound?
