(CNN) For months, 20-year-old Christopher Lee Cornell had been on the FBI's radar. Authorities said he left alarming posts on social media, talking about violent jihad.
On Wednesday, agents arrested the Cincinnati, Ohio, man before he could put his alleged plot into action.
Authorities say Cornell, who ostensibly tweeted under the name Raheel Mahrus Ubaydah, hatched a simple scheme. It was similar to the Paris attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, but at a key location -- the U.S. Capitol, said a criminal complaint filed by an FBI agent.
The plan: Set off pipe bombs to put lawmakers and employees in panicked flight and then gun them down with an assault rifle as they ran across his path and that of an accomplice, Special Agent T.A. Staderman wrote.
Cornell was ready to go, the agent said.

I’m confused. I thought his preferred name was Raheel Mahrus Ubaydah. Aren’t the media being disrespectful? It’s like calling Muhammad Ali “Cassius Clay.”

But this dude looks like something is seriously wrong with him. Whatever is going on with that extra eyebrow growing over his nose makes him look deranged.

The parents are claiming that he was “set up” by the FBI.

Let me see if I understand this right.. A guy dresses as a woman, they call him ‘she’. They’ll refer to media stars by whatever stage name they want. But they suddenly go by legal name when referring to an Islamic terrorist?
By today’s standards, isn’t this a PC crime in itself?
Oh, right, his Islamic name and intention to commit Islamic terrorism goes against their agenda of showing a whacked out white guy.
There’s a certain irony in a mohammedan terrorist being named “Christopher”.

Well, to be fair, I've probably left what would be considered 'alarming posts on social media' (here) about 'violent jihad' needed to be taken on Washington, DC. Not using those terms, of course, but something along the lines of a real revolution being needed to replace the current lot of power grabbing government 'leaders', with a limited government that actually follows the U.S. Constitution.
But then I remember we get the government we deserve, and God is in charge. And also that I'm not supposed to talk bad about our leaders ... So we're all good.
But I'm sure some of my former posts would be considered 'alarming'. Hopefully they have something more solid for arresting Jihad Johnny here.
I couldn’t believe the state of denial by the parents this morning on the news. I mean look at the kid! Does he look normal to you? Does not look normal to me! But the parents thought he was normal! We are in so deep....
The father claimed he never went out of the house, but I understand he was arrested at a shooting range.
Not to excuse this guy but it does seem that the only domestic terrorists the gov't catches are the ones they manufacture.
