House votes 218-209 to freeze Obama's delayed deportation program

The House adopted an amendment Wednesday to freeze a 2012 program allowing illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to apply for work permits.

Passage fell largely along party lines by a vote of 218-209. But 26 Republicans, many of whom represent districts with large minority populations, voted against the amendment.

Adoption of the amendment onto a $40 billion base funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security makes it unlikely to pass in the Senate, where it will need 60 votes to advance.

The amendment would prohibit funds for new or renewed applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Under the program, immigrants who came to the country as children can delay deportations for three years at a time. Those immigrants must have arrived in the country before the age of 16 and have lived in the U.S. since June 2007. They are also required to either be in school or have graduated.

The House passed similar legislation in August to roll back the DACA program. Eleven Republicans, 10 of whom are still House members, voted against the measure three months before the midterm elections.

House Republicans are set to leave Washington later Wednesday for their annual retreat in Hershey, Pa. Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) noted that Republicans presented their own immigration principles at last year's retreat, including to provide "an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children through no fault of their own.”

"Does it mean anything to you anymore? Don't care about children?" Gutiérrez asked Republicans. "Because that is precisely what you are saying today."

Won’t amount to a hill of beans. Like Rush was saying today: either the Senate is going to kill it or Obama is going to veto. DHS is either going to shutdown (”austerity cuts”) or Boehner is going to make a deal with the devil.

Obama or the senate will cover our butts, so we can appear to be hard lined and when it fails, we'll turn to our voters and say ‘well, we tried.’ Repeat for ObamaCare. Of course, liberal agenda items will still get through.

Shut down the Department of Homeland Security until the laws written and executed by the executive branch are undone. Somehow, I betcha that Obama will cave. He caves to everyone else, time he caves to conservatives.

26 Republicans... the hard left “Hell No!” caucus of the House.

Every one of them needs a conservative opponent IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.
Not the primary, the general.
Sacrifices have to be made.

Don't care about children?

Why yes they do Senor Gutierrez, you racist.

They care about American children, not the children of Mexico....who are the responsibility of that country, that nation.

Pena-Nieto can do what he's supposed to. Perhaps confiscate the grotesque fortune of the World's Richest Man - Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico, and subsidize the tens of millions of poor in that country?

Instead of us. We have our own children to worry about.

“either the Senate is going to kill it or Obama is going to veto”

Nope. Obama proposes. Congress disposes.
He can veto or hold his breath `til he turns blue.
How did he ever get hold of a blank checkbook to the US Treasury?
He’s assuming this power. He acknowledged he wasn’t Emperor of the US, then he began acting the part.
Time to close down his credit. Spending is Congress’s prerogative.

This is the battle line, if the GOP will fight, but it looks like they’re all talk. So the above is all academic. Obama accomplished a coup and the GOP is going along.

So you are probably right. Boehner would pocket and sell the pennies from his dead mother’s eyes to purchase the approval of Obama, the MSM and the Democrats.
All the while though he will talk a good talk for us Hobbits in pajamas with our asses out of line, since they may need us in a couple years.

It’s hilarious to see her “representing” Tucson.

Ron Barber was just an old time dopey Dem from the 60’s, actually used to run into him as a kid at the old Louie’s Lower Level which was in the Student Union at the U of A.

Not a bad guy, just lost in the past.

But even he would remember Tucson then: there was no Spanish. The Mexican population was around 10%. There was one little Spanish newspaper in South Tucson and one (as in, “1”) Spanish radio station. This was the situation even into the 1980s.

Even speaking Spanish in public was considered rude. What are you saying about us?

But how would a military social climber like McSally know that? Her life has been about trying to get to D.C. as an Important Person. Like McCain. Representing Tucson is just a side gig to her. Again, like McCain: he’s about as Arizonan as Chuck Schumer.

Maybe she actually believes that Arizona was basically a Mexican pueblo up until, mmm, 1970. But it’s crap as anyone knows who grew up there.

But with her votes, she shows her ignorance, and pushes us down the path of Reconquista.

McSally is a liberal Republican, who is pro amnesty, and Obamacare. She is a carpetbagger who filed for office 2 weeks after moving to AZ. Boehner flew out here to campaign for her.
