"Klansville U.S.A." which was broadcast nationally last night is a PBS American Experience production by WGBH in Boston based on a book of that title by David Cunningham. It is an interesting look at the rise and fall of the North Carolina Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s. A very good historical documentary marred by the jarring flaw of taking a cheap shot at Republicans.
It was almost as if the producer and director, Callie T. Wiser, just couldn't restrain herself from taking a shot at Republicans. The documentary stuck to the facts until just a couple of minutes before the end at the 49:30 mark of the video when historian David Cecelski took the cheap shot:

The KKK was founded by democrats.
I watched it.
It was pretty straight up until the very end...............
Every idiot in the media gets the Klan wrong. It was founded as the terrorist arm of the Democrat Party. Its goal was to keep working class whites voting Democrat and to suppress the black vote. It was part and parcel with Democrat efforts to legislate discrimination through Jim Crow laws. The KKK did not exist independent of the Democrat Party. Once the Democrat Party stopped having a use for the Klan, it faded away and now only nutcases and complete losers are members. It didn’t turn into a Republican organization — it died when the Democrats stopped supporting it, period.
Must be beg week at PBS.
Um, the KKK was totally a Democratic outfit from day one.
Not here..........yet................
I was watching and caught it when he said it.
The FRONTLINE on Putin that came on after was GOOD!!
What pisses me off is that I am paying for this crap!
-- The Muslims, who captured them in Africa and sold them into slavery; and
-- The Democrat Party who enslaved them in the U.S., oppressed them with segregation, the KKK, Jim Crow and opposition to civil rights legislation, and whose government policies ever since have destroyed their families, their culture, and deprived them of education and opportunity.
Overall it was a good documentary if you leave out the very last segment...........................
I watched some of it. I thought it stunk. Typical liberal race baiting. The most important point that I took away from it was that the numbers of Klansman were so small relative to the population. There were only a few thousand Klanspersons in North Carolina for example. Minor league baseball games draw bigger crowds. The KKK were good at getting maximum publicity for a small group of dumb white trash.
I watched it last night. Was pretty good until they said “then the people fell out of touch with the klan and took up the ideology of the Republican Party”
Garbage
PBS just can’t seem to grasp that the Klan and all of its imitators have always been Damocrats.
Do Republicans have the nerve to stop funding PBS? Nope!
There we have it. All Republicans are Klansmen. But none of the Jihadists represent Islam.
I saw the one hour American Masters documentary at 2am. It focused on just one Klan group in North Carolina in the 60s.
PBS is given taxpayer dollars by the DemocRATS to make sure the communists can continue their propaganda campaign against Americans and help keep the communist blitzkrieg against America rolling. America hating foreigners and illegal alien invaders are counting on PBS to give them a voice against Americans.
...”A lot of whites are finding their racial anxieties channeled into other political avenues, into the Republican party but also into George Wallace’s American Independent Party.”
The Quote.
George Wallace was a democrat, he strayed in 1968 to run as a third party candidate, but ran again for president as democrat in 1972, he was democrat all of his life except for 1968. Wallace also ran for the democrat nomination in 1976, doing poorly and endorsed Jimmy Carter.
In 1982, Wallace ran for his final term as a democrat Governor, and won about 93% of the black vote, winning the election and his 4th term scattered from 1963 through 1987.
In 1964 the Republican won 38.5% of the vote with democrats winning 61.1%, and in 1968 republicans increased their share to 43.4%, while the democrat share dropped to 42.7% with Wallace taking 13.5% from one of the two parties.
