Roy Blunt Is a Paper Elephant

In an effort to ingratiate themselves to their conservative constitutions, establishment Republicans offer combative and assertive rhetoric once the fight is already over, but retreat in fear whenever a consequential fight is underway. They are akin to the boxer who aggressively assails a punching bag in front of on-looking fans during practice, but draws back in fear upon entry in the ring with a real live opponent.

The latest embodiment of the political paper tiger, or more aptly named, paper elephant, is Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO). In the spirit of ringing in the New Year with a set of resolutions, there are more than a few that Blunt should consider – starting with quitting his habit of selling half-truth to his constituents.

Given that Roy Blunt is one of the GOP senators up for re-election in a conservative state this cycle, he certainly has a growing crowd observing his practice warmups. In a state where Obama lost 110 of 114 counties, Blunt wants to be perceived as a champion fighter in the ring facing the president.

In the bout against Obama’s executive amnesty, Blunt is proudly touting his partnership in an amicus brief to a lawsuit against the executive action brought by the state of Texas in federal court. He wants his constituents to know that he is going for a knockout punch.

The problem is that Blunt won’t actually throw a punch in the ring, despite insisting to his constituents that he is a fierce fighter.

Blunt was utterly incompetent when he served as Republican Whip in the House (and briefly as Majority Leader). Rather than be fired when the GOP lost their majority on his watch, the establishment turd was promoted to Senator instead.

“Blunt wants to pretend to be conservative just before his election”

Yes, the well documented 6th year senatorial metamorphosis from establishment squish to “conservative.”

How many low information Republican voters will be taken in next year?

You can lather lipstick on this pig all you want but it’s not going to change the fact that Blunt is GOPe to the core. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone primaries him. I certainly hope they do.
