Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi met U.S. Deputy Energy Secretary Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall on Tuesday in Riyadh where they discussed oil markets, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

SPA gave no specific details about the meeting in a brief statement but said the officials looked into cooperation on energy and environmental issues, climate change, solar energy use and mutual investments.

A U.S. energy department spokesman said in addition to those areas, the two officials discussed global oil markets.

The trip was Sherwood-Randall's first as deputy energy secretary.

"She chose to make her first visit to Saudi Arabia given our strategic partnership and our shared interest in continuing the close cooperation between our two governments on a range of energy issues," the energy department spokesperson said.

Oil price fall to make US negotiate with OPEC
http://en.mehrnews.com/detail/News/105443
TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (MNA) –

An international oil and energy consultant and analyst believes that plummeting oil prices will lead all OPEC members to fill the gap in their budgets by utilizing their healthy reserves or by loans from international banks which cannot last for long.

Mr. Takin believes that US is both a winner and a loser in the current status. “It is a net importer of oil, thus its current account deficit is improving; however, its oil industry is under stress as companies are reducing their investments, making their staff redundant and some could go bankrupt and recession is becoming a serious problem in the oil states of the US.”

He sees the plummeting prices a factor to force the American leadership to become diplomatically more active and negotiate with OPEC and other producers.

I missed the part where it said she went to Saudi Arabia before meeting with domestic producers.

The article said this was her first trip to Saudi Arabia

I just posted some info on her. Don’t see any “energy” in her background.

How did you decide that? She’s been in the position for about half a year.

A couple of items worth noting from the article:

1. SPA gave no specific details about the meeting in a brief statement but said the officials looked into cooperation on energy and environmental issues, climate change, solar energy use and mutual investments. ...

2. U.S. crude hit a near six-year low of $44.20 on Tuesday.

As to Item 1 you don't need to be a genius to read that the U.S. concern is that the effect of "Too Much Saudi Oil" on the market will increase "Climate Change", hurt the Solar Energy Market and reduce the value of investments in oil production.

Conclusion: Obama policy requires higher gasoline prices.

And that $44.20 price on a barrel of crude? That's about what it was when Obama took office. Draw your own conclusions from that.

I can’t argue that point. She is a card carrying leftist

She apparently got the job in September 2014 and had plenty of time to meet with American companies. Her trip to Saudi Arabia three months later did not necessarily precede meeting American Companies.

As a matter of fact, after meeting with American companies, the next best place to learn what’s what is in Saudi Arabia. That i, if she can be taught.

I would suspect she will be greeted with courtesy and ignored in much the same manner as Lurch.

I’d say she’s way out of her league....and her mission is more likely a spy mission....i.e., find out what they’re saying about Obama besides....we don’t give a sh** about him.
