And here I thought the French police were not allowed to have guns...

Seriously, though, isn’t this a bit of an extreme over-reaction?

Did he really off himself or was this the French version of being “Vince Foster’d?”

Is this the first time this was mentioned as news? I don’t think I heard of this being talked about before. How did the media miss this one?

It’s been in the news across the pond, just not in the dumbed down American news (you know, with the 24 hour news cycle).

That’s what I mean. How will CNN reconcile to it’s audience they missed a story that happened a WEEK ago?

The French police may have been holding back information until they were sure what happened, notifies next of kin, etc.

My hunch is there is more to this story. I read that the police removed most of the protection they had been providing at Charlie Hebdo six months before the massacre. No one has indicated who made that decision but, on hindsight, it clearly was reckless. Note, he killed himself after meeting with some of the survivors.

It is pretty obvious that he was already pushed to the limit with stress, which in turn indicates that this part of the French police need more psychological support be made available to them.

This is pretty common in larger police departments in the US, so much so that some keep a psychologist on staff who specializes in cop problems.

When they were first introduced there were some glitches, such as leadership assuming that any officer who approached the counselor was a problem and needed to be put behind a desk.

But everybody quickly figured out that psychologists were a big help in reducing non-critical stress, and also when some cops had been pushed to their limits, often by a combination of work and home stress. And this ended up saving a lot of lives, both of the cops themselves, and the people they had to work with.

I think your theory has the best fit for now. Maybe the guilt drove him too it.

That and the fact he has been fighting a war with a bunch of evil bastards trying to burn the city and he’s not even allowed to arm his officers. It appears that all they are allowed to do is put out the fires and apologize to the SOB’s who set them. Who would want that job? What’s even more scary is that if the left had it’s way, we would be in the same position right now
