If someone is in a leadership position and not leading, then it is far better than they do nothing and passively screw up than try to lead and actively screw up.
At this point, we can but hope that both Obama and de Blasio go into an inert mode, where they just sit in their respective mansions feeling sorry for themselves. They will cause less harm that way.
